I know this sounds silly, but I wish I could post the taste of the food here.... it's indescribably much more delicious than what I have tasted in the USA.... I just prepared some shake with only papaya and milk... it was sooo sweet... didn't need to add any sugar...

That's interesting. I thought that the police in Brazil were all Federal, and also branch of the military. That is, unlike the USA where Federal policing is limited (supposedly) to agencies that are totally separate from the military.

Is that post staffed with State Police due to it being in such a remote area?

The Brazilian Federal Highway Police (Polícia Rodoviária Federal or PRF) is a federal highway patrol, subordinate to the Ministry of Justice, whose main function is fighting crime on Brazilian federal roads and highways, as well as monitoring and supervising vehicular traffic, although it has also taken on duties that go beyond its original authority, such as action within Brazilian cities and forests in conjunction with other public safety agencies.
Currently the PRF has over four hundred patrol posts in the most diverse Brazilian municipalities, providing a capillarity to the structure of the agency that few national institutions possess.
Despite the uniformed work, the PRF is not a military institution and a rigid hierarchy among the police officers does not exist. The entire hierarchy is based on the functions of supervision, which can be occupied by any police officer, for example a special agent may be supervisor of an inspector.

In Brasil there's the Policia Rodoviaria Federal, responsible for patrolling of the whole federal net of highways and the battalions of military police of each state (Policia Rodoviaria Estadual).

I have no idea why it is there.... That location is not that remote at all.... it's the south entrance to a "big" city, Sobral. BTW, according to the United Nations, in 2010 Sobral had 147,353 (2010) people. And it has been growing a lot.

These is how we buy medicine in Brasil.... no control.... One goes to a pharmacy or drug store, shows the prescription and can buy one, or 2 or more packages of medicine... In some places, the more you buy, the more discount you get...
Some of the medicine doctors prescribed for my dad... but he is refusing to take any.... :biggrin_25513:

Went to the nearby town... today was "fair day".... when vendors sell food and other things on the street. It gets very congested.... lots and lots of small motorcycles and other vehicles...

I caught attention from folks... looking like a tourist taking pictures with my cell....

The guy in a yellow shirt is selling bars of "rapadura".... is unrefined whole cane sugar, typical of Central, and of Latin America in general, which is a solid form of sucrose derived from the boiling and evaporation of sugarcane juice.

    20190904_103411.jpg
There are many kinds and shapes of rapadura... and can be eaten and cooked in many different ways for many kinds of dishes very typical in this region...

There are also vendors selling clothes, pans and pots, shoes, and all sorts of things.... everything super cheap... but low quality....

Streets in this little town are super narrow and on a day like today there are lots of motorcycles, bicycles, vehicles, people, small trucks, etc, etc... These are 2 way streets + vehicles and motorcycles parked on the sides of the streets...

This is the "Prefeitura de Hidrolandia".... looks like the city hall of Hidrolandia... and a couple of school buses parked in front...

    20190904_104733.jpg

And Banco do Brasil.... this one is good only for checking balances... they don't do any money transactions in there because it has been robbed many times... the last one the bandits exploded the wall... and carried away money and ATM machines.... :biggrin_2554:

    20190904_112526.jpg

And this is a "big" food market here...
    20190904_111704.jpg
Back on the road.... lots of small motorcycles... nobody wears helmets and don't have drives' licenses either... cause there's no enforcement anyway...
