Where am I? At home recovering from a perfect day yesterday, that's where!

After a morning of honey dews, I decided to get the hardtail choppah out and visit an old murdercicle friend I haven't seen in over a decade. He's working at the Hardly dealer over in Marietta these days. He had posted on FB they were having an open house and antique bike competition. A last minute battery change so I missed most of it. The location is about 25 miles west of home thru the worst possible traffic, so riding a hand shifter over there is a bit more effort. 75º and sunny, it don't get any better than that. I can't think of anything I'd rather do, or a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I'll have to do it again before I get too old to kick start the bike LOL.

I would love to have a bike with a rigid frame and jockey shift! Sounds like a perfect day! Oh and either a Pan or Knucklehead!!

I wish I had the bike my dad got rid of before I was born. Vincent Black Shadow. Supposedly needed a little work but they all needed more maintenance back then. Big time reputation back then and from an article I read last week the fastest production bike for all the 50's and the very early 60's. And the shocker is that it was only 55 horsepower stock. Worth some money now.
    Ever heard of those ?

chopper103in, RedForeman and BigBob410 Thank this.

It's what's wrong with the younger generation now. Immediate gratification, coupled with technology that does all your thinking for you. There is definitely something more fulfilling in doing things without all that. Or at least having done so at least once in your life.

Those performance specs are all about perspective. 55hp on a bike with 1950's suspension, brakes, tires, and about 200 fewer pounds, is every bit as much a thrill ride as 200hp on a modern one.

My other bike was the fastest production bike available in any dealership. In 1974. It's the Z1-A my Dad took home from the dealer in Nov '73. I was 7 yrs old at the time and got to ride on the back. It's every bit as exciting to ride today as it was back then.

About 10 yrs ago I had a BMW K1200GT that, during a poor decision making moment, reached 154 mph (captured on the gps) one day at an undisclosed location. It was impressive. That one had a factory tune that opened up like afterburners above 6,000 rpm. Even that doesn't come close to the feeling when I crank the fast handle open on that 900 Kawasaki. Best I can describe it is more raw and uncontrolled.
