Oh I knew you were talking about before my time... I almost had to get into the WABAC machine with Mr. Peabody! It was nice to see they'd made an effort to clean the place up when I was last there a year or two ago

So... drop 'n hook in Wintersville OH. At the Valero T/S... came about the right time as folks are starting heading over to the DC for their live unload appointments.

    Dumb%$* of the day...

Some moron goes over to the DC 3 hours early... they only let folks in 1 hour before appointment time. So the guard chases him off, whereupon Mr Moron says, "Well just where am I supposed to park?" The guard tells him, "Go to the truckstop." Mr Moron replies, "Well I ain't goin' down there!"

So... I show up, and there's an idiot parked in the right hand turn lane at the stoplight into the DC. I mention this to the guard as I check in, and get the rest of the story. Moron, has been sitting up there since before midnight. about 15 minutes before I check in around 0300 he comes down to the guard shack asking where he can get some fuel. Yup! Moron ran out of fuel idling... now blocking the turn lane.

"...well, you COULD go down to the truckstop!" :biggrin_2559:

Too dang funny! But sadly, this is what we have in the industry anymore.....

I myself have been plagued by idiots lately. Just two quick ones:
CRST driver going up 81 last week. Doing about 55. I ride along behind it, knowing I was was heavy and would need adequate time to pass. I finally get my chance after about 5 miles, and pull out. You can pretty much guess what happens next. Yup...CRST speeds up. I fall back in behind. For the next 7 or 8 miles, it's 55, then 61, then 54, 63, 53.....and I'm starting to get peeved. I finally get past her. She's got her hands gripping that wheel and staring straight ahead....I mean locked on. Don't know if she was tired or a trainee.

Then, a few days ago, heading north through the construction in Effingham....if you've been through there lately, you know some of the on-ramps have zero acceleration area, and therefore are posted "STOP". I'm in the right lane, can't move left at all. No one in front of me for perhaps 500 feet. I see a USX truck waiting to get on behind 3 four-wheelers. The three cars go, and USX just falls right in behind them. Unfortunately, by that time, even at 45 mph, I've almost arrived at the point of (near) impact.

I'm really losing patience with what now passes for "professional" drivers.

Oh, and I'm at the Penn 80 (J) in Milton, PA. Deliver 5 miles away in the morning.

At the house--maybe for a while--not gonna go into it in public--major changes at work--they say for the best--I can't afford the paycuts--boss climbed in his truck and took off for AZ--says the kids are in charge?
Kids swear there is more money in the new proposal? Must be the new math--Have 5 weeks vacation--Just took one...need time to think---who does what we do on mileage? Thats nutz--oh and NO unloading period--say work comp insurance too high--there goes another 300+a week...
Oh and I now have a 65mph Stretched out 379---that in itself is a sin--and to think Ive been runnin under 70--for the most part(when i could0cuz the ol man asked all of us to help out with fuel mileage best we can--hell I've only been gettin 6.5 out of a 379 w/no aero at ALL--pullin an overloaded stainless spread.......
Im too old for this ####--Time for a beer--or six

Sounds like what has plagued other companies that have been in business for a long time....the newer generation coming in and doing it by what they "learned" in school. I call it the "Harvard Business School" mentality. Sounds good, but never for the drivers.

Hope it all shakes out for ya.

    Probably this guy's brother: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...-where-are-you-continues-195.html#post3513368

(No, not me you pestilential aquatic rat... the dumb-a&%# I related in that post!) :biggrin_25523:

Hamilton OH... getting unloaded 6 hours early. Don't understand why anyone would schedule an unload appointment for a 169-mile run 12 hours after the load appointment.

Back @ home from my brother-in-laws property in Ontario. Was clearing bush and pulling tree stumps to help him get the land cleared to start building his house. Its right on the lake so did some fishing ( caught 3 pickerel and 2 bass) and a fair old bit of beer drinking in between (and during!) working. Set up a tent on the lake shore and camped out there during the nights. Some other family members visited a few times as they were camping nearby.
Have been really enjoying not working on the truck and being home from the road. Got some work coming up driving truck for my father-in-law hauling Super B-train tankers when the fertilizer season starts so will make some good money on that. Last time I did that for him I was making around $300 a day and sleeping in my bed every night. Its only a short term job but will get my through until Christmas.
Havent done anything with my truck as of yet. Its parked up with "Lay-up" insurance on it. Cant quite bring myself to sell it just yet but really not seeing much worthwhile work for it that will keep me closer to home, unless I buy a trailer but not interested in that at the moment.
How y'all been keeping out on the big road?
    Stay safe out there!
