Backing on the chains works good on dry and level ground....Try that on the ice on a grade.....

Hence why the saying "Throw Iron" came to being.....You're better off draping the chains over the tires....Pull the front down and tuck in the back....
Now I cheat a little...I hook the outer hooks so the chain doesn't slip off......

Do that with all four drivers....Pull forward about two feet....Hook and twist....Two bungies per....And yer good to go....

The problem with laying chains out behind the tire (especially with a trailer attached), is that both chains must be exactly straight behind the tires and the backing onto needs to be exactly perfect and square. With the trailer blocking the "view" of how straight the two chains are...so the slightest bit off square and straight causes both chains to be off center on the tires. Plus, if you back just a bit too far, now you have the forward drive on top of the front end of the chain.

Parowan, UT...T/A....debating on leaving at 0001 or waiting till the sun creeps over the mountain tops. Hours available are incredibly tight...make it to L.A. no problem, but will have to wait till midnight Tues to continue home to "vacation"....aka, honey do list....a real ugly list at that!!!

1: bungee hook is on the cam. It doesn't look to be hooked very evenly distributed around the chain either.
    2: loose end hanging.
3: hard to tell if the chain they are using has the spikey things on the cross chains but if it does they have put it on upside down.
4 : I was going to mention this myself the other day when it was posted but was scared of starting a "Chain up " war !

I'll stay east until May, thanks. You can have that chaining. I'm running plenty of miles without 'em!:yes2557:

I'm in Max Meadows, picking up in Dublin, VA at 1400 and heading to Murfreesboro, TN.

Hmm, sounds like a good time for your truck to need some work down south there. "Sorry, hon, no can do on that list this time, I'm stuck in the southland. . .":biggrin_25523:

You must be kind of funny looking then!:biggrin_2552:

Better way=con someone else into doing it for you, just make sure they do it right?:yes2557:

    Ah me, I really should get serious, shouldn't I. . .:biggrin_2559:

Not saying I got an easier way, just pointing out what I would correct. I've thrown enough chains to have had to learn the hard way what happens when they are incorrectly fitted. Stuck on westbound I80 just east of Donner summit trying to bust off a broken fender and pry the triple railer out of between the duals is not fun! That was my own fault for not knowing how to properly fit chains. I tell you I quickly found out the correct methods and practiced until I could do it properly!
