Dave... sometimes it's not necessarily the dispatchers' fault. Some of these mega carriers have soooo many loads and so many people working together dispatching, scheduling loads with customers and such... and it's common when things don't go right as "planned"... remember, "no plan survives first contact..." Problems with loads, paperwork, equipment, etc arise and appointments have to be rescheduled or cancelled. I would like to seat for a day next to a dispatcher in a mega carrier just to watch how they work.

One of our guys sat in with the load planners one afternoon... an educational experience to say the least. In or system, most of the matching loads to trucks happens there with inputs from the dispatchers who know the drivers better.

Considering the workload most of these people have (cost cutting by management) it's not surprising that there are screw-ups that devolve upon the driver. That just means that we're the folks who get the brown end of the stick.

We've got really good dispatchers and I've been around them several times as they work on setting up loads. I think it is amazing they can keep it all straight. Definitely not the job for me.

Oxnard ca. Delivered in Ontario ca earlier today at IFCO re-useable container company. PITA of a place. Very little room to manouver and lots of trucks all trying to jockey in and out of the doors. Just getting in off the road and out after unloading is a mission!! Was a driver from a Calgary based company trying to back in and having trouble. I got up on his side step and talked him through the entire procedure as he did the backing, he had a BIG smile on his face when he got it in the door!
