Had to tear out a lot of trim for the foundation repair, I managed to reuse most of it. This is for the closet.

It’s been 10 years since the last major remodel, I’m glad we went this avenue. It’s just 6 by 1 untreated pine, 2 coats of stain and one clear. About $1.50/lineal foot.

The door sets for the whole house were solid pine units too - cheap at the time, $100 each for the whole door set, $150 for double closet doors.

Unless you’re a complete wood snob, pine comes out looking pretty good, and none of the 10 year old wood had any splitting issues taking off or replacing.

This is one coat of stain.

Strange that you mention that, a local guy here is the great great grandson of the Czechoslovakian that imported that carriage.

His story, as he told me -

His great great grandfather was a keen and avid wild game hunter, and met his fate in the Savannah, on a hunt. His best friend, a polish chap - was with him on the terrible day where they were surprised by a pair of lions - mating in season and very fierce. Unfortunately he was killed and eaten, and his Polish buddy managed to escape and summon the help of a local hunter.

They both returned to the scene of the savaging, the hunter with a sizable rifle, came across the male and female lions in a trail, licking their lips, having feasted upon the poor man.

The Hunter asked the Polish friend "Which one killed and ate him?"

    To which he replied . . . .wait for it . . . . .

Helped a buddy build his home. Trimmed the whole place in pine, and pine cabinets. Looked great. Something different. Now if I had your cash, it would be hand carved mahogany.

Pine seems to have a resilient nature, at least in the short term. I find it intriguing what resins and stains can bring to the table on ‘cheap’ lumber.

And no, sir - the cash is flowing out the door here rapidly with the foundation resurrection -

I’ll be asking for loans, Go Fund Me , and donations here shortly.
