Probably reefers. People still need to eat even during a correction.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

    That's a fact.
Also, reefers haul lots of holiday foods and treats, such as Christmas, Easter, New Year's, celebrations. Other freight slows, but reefer freight during holidays picks up. Smoked hams, candy, pies, cakes, ice cream and on and on. I remember some drivers I knew that pulled dry vans, were sitting home worrying about a load, but I didn't have that problem. Hauled truck loads of holiday candy from Kentucky to Texas, Arizona, California, Pacific-Northwest, etc. Lots of miles and take any damages home....lol.
Hauled smoked hams, the high dollar ones, each ham in a wooden crate. Just put a bow and card on it and present it for a gift.

Not to mention, it can haul dry loads too as long as the customer will load it on a reefer and not rip the air chutes out of the roof.

    Bret1984 and Chinatown Thank this.

Not much demand. There are way too many of them.

Yup, my very first load when I first started with a reefer company was clothes going from Dallas TX to Phoenix AZ. Actually a great little run for a newbie on his first solo run. Light load, all interstate heading west where there's not a lot of mountains or traffic. Plus I got to have a little break and grab something to eat with a few army buddies in El Paso on the way. Probably the perfect first load to ease me into it. The hardest thing was docking because I was still really fresh so backing was still a challenge.
