So after looking for work in this "not so great" economy, my fiancee and I have decided that obtaining my CDL would be in the better interest for my family. We know the hardest thing is me being gone for weeks at a time, but to know my family won't have to stress about bills/finances, as much as we are now, is going to be worth it. Having a CDL license opens so many opportunities, locally or regionally.
To get people understand where I'm at, with a decision, is this: I've recently received a conformation email from CR England including a bus ticket number. I have until this coming Thursday to let them know if I'm not going to be able to make it. After reading some posts on here and another trucking review website, I'm starting to seriously have serious doubts about CR England. I'm the type that is going to ask questions if I don't understand something. And from the sound of it, they just push as many people through as possible...whether you understand everything or not. I'm not willing to risk my future career because I wasn't able to get the answers I needed and/or proper training.
I have also been in touch with a friend that works for Central Refrigerated Services INC. He says he enjoys working for the company and hasn't had any issues. But some people have issues with one company over another.
I'm here to ask to hear other peoples suggestions about trucking schools that offer more individual attention if needed. What about job placement after obtaining a CDL? Best entry level pay/training with a company after CDL?
Any input would be great. I understand I am going to get mixed input from other members on here. Stories they've heard, personal experiences, etc. I will "soak up" all your input and make a decision on what my family and I feel would be best.
Thank you in advance!
Which one...!?

was that sarcasm or were you being serious? I figured your comment could go either way. Lol.
Also, I forgot to mention that I have driven some 10 wheeler farm trucks over in Idaho. Had never driven a truck that size, so it was a fun experience for me. But lets just say I hate potatoes and sugar beats. -

hey n172,
kinda in the same boat as you. starting @ FFE myself on march 12. like you, i hope, i did a ton of research both here as well as other places. as for england? if that training comp fits your family needs the best then go with it. for me it didn't.
just know that for the first year we will both be overwhelmed, over worked and under payed. i'm just gonna put my head down and hunker through it. i've worked for a few crappy NON trucking companies in the past and survived a year or more so here's hoping that i can survive this one. and if FFE isn't that bad then i hit the jackpot.
good luck and let me/us know how it goes for ya.
last tip. use the search button on the forum and read. read. read and read some more.

Just got off the phone with Prime Inc. The recruiter said that I'd be in training for about 4-6 weeks after the 4 day orientation. After that, I can move to a company driver and make $0.12 cpm or $600 a week. Whichever one is more. I mentioned how I'm hearing about some schools/companies pushing their new employee's to go the route of the lease option. The recruiter said that if I'm contempt with staying a company driver, then that is what I can do. I haven't seen many bad reviews for Prime on this website, so I'll be doing a little more research about the company. Anybody had any input from this company?

You mentioned that you had an opportunity with Prime...When I was starting out, I cringed at the thought of Prime's training requirements. At least they pay you during that time. Prime is paying you $600 a week to train? I believe that's twice what CRE pays trainees...
Yes CRE will PROBABLY put you in your own truck more quickly than Prime...but if you read the comments on TTR, by getting in your truck sooner at CRE doesn't mean you're going to be making money. It just means you're going to be broke at an earlier date.
If I were just beginning my trucking career, and CRE and Prime were my only choices. MY BUTT WOULD BE IN SPRINGFIELD MO!! -
So I've decided that Central Refrigerated is probably going to work best for me, as a complete rookie. I've also been looking into Schneider as a possible company after I obtain my CDL. Especially if they are willing to pay tuition from CRS. Anybody see anything that might be an issue with this?
