Hey eveyrone, just looking for insight from people with experience with a few companies. I am currently a student in northern illinois, CDL test is on 15th of aug. applied to 4 companies and heard from all of them just not sure which is best. Halvor lines i have had the oppertunity to talk to a few drivers for them at truck stops and they all say decent company, but not what it used to be. Mansur trucking looks pretty good read a few threads on them here but if anyone has any more information please let me know i have interview with them scheduled already and are my top choice so far. Other is Marvin keller. I would like to start off with flatbed which i know mansur and halvor do, halvor 34 cpm start mansur is percentage said i would start of 27% because they need drivers bad. So im really torn on whcih company to choose pretty much halvor lines or Mansur at this point, both have good saftey score, both seem run decent equipment, both promise good hometime mansur being every weekend i believe.

Any advice on those companies or your experiences or maybe a company that i have overlooked in my research is greatly appreciated. I would prefer a company who runs manual trans and so far mansur is the only one on my list that does.

Don't pay much attention to remarks such as "Decent company, but not what it used to be" or "Good company, but going down hill fast", because that's pretty much a standard answer across the board for any company. The drivers giving you those answers still work there so that speaks for itself.

Mansur and Halvor probably both OK companies. Some drivers love percentage pay and some don't. Kind of 50/50. The biggest negative I've heard from drivers concerning percentage pay is you don't get paid for deadhead miles. Of course, good paying percentage loads make up for that and more most of the time.

Take a look at System Transport and Melton Truck Lines also. The only big difference I see is Melton and System have APU's.

Can't advise you on home time with any of those 4 companies. Being home every weekend has it's drawbacks such as if you're sitting at home every weekend, you're not turning the miles.

Thanks for the response Chinatown. I know Mansur says they pay deadhead miles, forgot to ask how much that was but sent email asking. Just stressing out on picking one of them lol, trying to get with best company I can for my first few years then move on. Wanted to do hazmat tanker but cant afford to get the hazmat at this time, so figured flatbed is next highest pay. I really like small med companies trying my hardest to stay away from mega carriers.
Thanks again for your response China, and if anyone else has anything to add it is appreciated.

Oh and since Mansur is percentage should i ask what rate they ship freight at? Is that a question they would answer?
