Well week 4 is history. All that's left is the DMV, PTI, and Driving Skills test. I'm going to be the first one in the class to test, which will be on Tuesday, 11/14. They moved me ahead, since others need more practice, I guess.
On the way home, I get a call from my wife. Seems that the trucking company I had as my target company just called. This is the company that had the 2 yr minimum driving requirement. They have agreed to waive the 2 yr minimum for me. So just sayin' things can happen.
I will start driving for them, (Knight Trucking, not Knight Transportation), shortly after Thanksgiving. I'll be pulling 38' end-dumps behind a Pete....
I also have offers from Swift, SNI,(whom wanted me to come to orientation on the 26th) and Keim, but would rather cut my teeth with a small family-owned company.
I also found out that TMC sent a pre-hire to another student in our class. This is after being told by the recruiter that we were in a gray area for hiring, and that they would not be hiring from our class. This guy that they sent the pre-hire to, can not drive or back worth a crap.

Well today was the last day of class and driving. Tomorrow first thing, at 10 a.m., I test with DMV. This morning we worked on all the backing maneuvers. Done fairly well, exempt for the blind-side parallel. Still didn't do that bad, but I know I can do better.
Everett Thanks this. -
Took and passed the DMV CDL test. I'm now a proud owner of one them 3-letter DLs.
Stopped by the trucking company on my home, provided them copies of my CDL, SS Card, & DOT Medical. I will then take a drug-test (not sure which one to study for), next Monday, some more paper work, then should be issued my truck.
Even though this world is quite large, every now and then you find out that it really is not. Come to find out, one of my driving instructors, Kevin, used to ride bulls, and knows Jeff & Jessie Knight. Jeff used to bull-fight, aka rodeo clown, saved him one time from getting a royal stomping. -
Congrats...Do you know what kind of hauling they do? Is it mostly around Topeka area? Just remember, when raising that bed, make sure you are always on level ground. I pulled a end dump for Penny's Concrete for 2 years.
Will keep a eye out for you. You can see some pics in my profile. Just hollar for Grandpa. -
Thanks Grandpa.,
They pull 38' end-dumps, and pneumatics, hauling Food grade salt, feed grade salt, road salt, cement, lime, kiln dust, fly ash, potash, sand, grain, types of grain pellets, gyp, rock, fertilizer (non hazardous), haydite, microlite, and light aggregates.
Currently they are hauling mainly in KS, MO, NE, OK, TX. They have authority to go about anywhere, including Canada. I'm real fortunate to land this job. They had to do some serious talking to get the insurance company to waive the 2 yr requirement.
Couple of bonuses I see is the training pay. Being able to get between $900-$1500 a week, even while training, and not having to "team" with the trainer. We will be playing follow the leader for 2 weeks.
When I'm up that way, I''ll give a shout!!
