For the actual test itself, I believe it is still 3rd party instructors. At least it was 15 years ago when I got mine. Never heard different.
seanjames653 Thanks this. -
Third Party Instructors. Either that or it's a State Government position.
I for one don't make a good tester. I have very little tolerance for small things which means it's really good that Im not out there.seanjames653 Thanks this. -
When I took mine 23 years ago, it was a State Trooper. The company that I worked for had a couple of us lined up to test (we worked in the shop, and they needed their mechanics and helpers to have their CDL). The statey used an old truck stop parking lot where she had the cones set up for the skills test, then she had a road test course set up around the local area. I know when I was re-instating my hazmat endorsement, there was a list of DMV offices that show CDL testing, but not all do it.
x1Heavy and seanjames653 Thank this. -
Maryland issued my Class A in a place called Glen Burnie down the old Route two.
I think they built a little interstate spur down there now. They call that the little Autobahn with rush hour average speeds approaching 100 some mornings. Feels like a good weekly work day near Houston Texas... -
Okay, I have been waiting a week to tell this but I didn't want to start a new thread for one story. My wife works at the welfare office here. The office is shared with the drivers testing folks. Drivers testers here are part of the Highway Patrol. They hate giving a perfect score to kids as they think it makes them over confident so they look for little things to dock them for. Last week they had a perfect driver. A pretty young thing that had spent time learning and had learned the right way. She got in, put her belt on, had the tester put his belt on, check the mirrors and adjusted them. Everything perfect. Pulled out with the correct signals. Everything was spot on. 15 minutes later, the tester was going to have to give out the first perfect score in his 35 years on the job. She pulled into the parking space and pushed hard on the accelerator instead of the brake and totaled hers and two other cars. Well not totaled but you get the idea.
