Husband/wife team hoping to get advice from you experienced drivers about which company to go with. We live in southeast TN, will be graduating with our CDL's soon.

Been reading a lot on the forums about these companies. Seems to be more bad about Covenant than USXpress. We've read a lot of good about Crete.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Crete is not a "team oriented" company, mostly solo freight. Covenant is decent depending on the dispatcher you get. Check about the training package...especially if you both (husband and wife) will be new drivers.

My wife and I drove for USX for two years and it was a great experience. At the time we did our research nobody paid new drivers better than USX at .48 a mile with your hazmat endorsement. I have talked to a number of Covenant team who are happy and get tons of miles. I see their tractors at truck stops and they are all new or newer Freightliner Cascadias. I have always thought of Crete as a good solo company, way better for solos than USX, and have not heard they are hiring teams. If they are going the team route I would wonder how much team freight they have. I know there are no answers here in this post but Covenant and USX are both based in Chattanooga.

OK, on Schaffer, aren't they all refer? Lots of miles usually but lots of sitting also with load and unload appointments instead of drop and hook.

Shaffer/Crete/Schaffer....potatoe/potato....both dispatched from same central location...same company actually! But yes Schaffer is the cold division of CCC.

Crete/Schaffer has some teams but not primarily a team company. We have some teams making great money.

Get on with US Xpress but make sure its on one of their dedicated accounts.

The ones I recommend is FedEx, Ceva or their reefer division.

Hello jungledrums, My wife and I are thinking of doing the team driving also. We are not in school and don't have our CDL but hope to be driving in the near future.

I don't have any info as I am new here also but I would like to ask you a few questions.

What school are graduating from ?

And what was it like training as a couple, were there other women training there also ? The reason I ask is my wife is a little nervous. She is a small 4 ft 11 in. but starting to feel better reading all the info on here and watching videos of lady drivers.

Seems like I heard Covenent will train H/W teams at the same time. I think the trainer sleeps at a hotel and H/W sleep in the truck. That would keep from being apart while training.
