Why are we so concerned with fuel prices?

I got a "suprise, suprise" present from Fleet One Edge fuel card last night (the less attractive sister of NASTC) , which lately was not too generous with their discounts. While regular cash price was over $5.30. I got this $3.899 deal.
Lucky me I had room for 225 gallons. It is like $330 less than if bough at posted price.
That's Sunoco at Service Plaza in Elkhart, In on I-80 westbound. The only one on the entire turnpike that offered that.

That's either a misprint or will change by the time anyone gets there.

Cost Plus pricing is based on oil futures, crude is going down , I knew it would because Joe said if we cut of Russia fuel would go up.

Bringing this back around to numbers.
I monitor a few Facebook groups (I know, I know) where brokers and carriers like to argue over rates. To read some of the post on there is amusing. Carriers asking for $1000 more for a 300 mile run and or brokers squeaking about fuel surcharges etc. now $1000 more may be warranted if the pay sucks to begin with. But, if it is decent already and I’m squeezing them a bit more it is pretty easy to toss out some real world numbers at them as well as quality of loads coming out. Not throwing out insane numbers unless you just don’t want the load and like wasting time.
By my fuzzy math if fuel prices are $5.20 and last time I fueled I paid $3.59 it cost me approximately .29 cents more per gallon to run a load. 700 miles would be approx $180 more. I have no doubt if I really want a load I can squeeze double that or more out of them to cover cost variables depending on where it goes. Now understand. I’m not talking about garbage paying loads. I am talking loads worth calling on.
Prices suck. But not a deal breaker.BoostedTeg, blairandgretchen, GYPSY65 and 5 others Thank this. -
edit:Just realized that you posted TCS prices and not NASTC.I’m wondering why my prices are higher?Attached Files:
