Why are we so concerned with fuel prices?

Will increased fuel costs put you out of business?

At $5 per gallon and 5 trucks my fuel cost have increased significantly and so far our dedicated customers have kept up with the fuel sur charge. What has me worried is the overall economy. At some point everyday American won’t be able to keep up with inflation. They will cut back or just outright won’t be able to buy as much. When that happens it will hurt everyone. Luckily my equipment is all paid for. But I still have my drivers and their families to worry about.

Someone wise - actually it was at a Caterpillar seminar back in the early 80s - once told me that the worst competition is from someone about to go out of business, whether they know it or not.

Good competition is good for any industry, and poor (pun intended) competition is not good for any industry.

They tried to steal diesel today. All they got is fumes.

As I said before, I never park with full tanks, so today I parked and went in for a shower, came out saw my passenger tank cap was off. Old dude in a flat bed was walking around his truck and working on something. I didn’t pay no mind but later started having doubts about the dude.

Either way they got nothing as I was empty.

    never park with full tanks,

Well - for one, I ain't quite an 'Old Dude in a flatbed'

Secondly - I was just helping you pre-trip by checking your fuel caps. You left the passenger side off.

And finally - I only managed to suck 30 gallons out of your tanks, so next time fill up before you park in Southwest Missouri. Our neighbors need your hard earned dollars.

Seriously though, that blows brother. Time for me to check into locking caps. Sigh.

I bought some lights that have motion sensors on them and installing them on my truck tomorrow. I think I have a camera as well that is a spy camera that I can hook up and send notices to cellphone if seen anything.

I'm curious about other makes than Volvo. Volvos, or the ones I've been around, have big strainers in the tops of the tanks where you can't steal fuel unless you have a small siphon hose. Are other trucks not made this way? I'll take a pic tomorrow.

Unfortunately for me I tore my driver's side one out to try to retrieve my cap chain stay when it fell in but I never got it. It's been rolling around in there for years.

I left the truck at the CEFCO in Jefferson, Tx long enough to pee and grab a sausage bisquit. Came back out and still had all of my fuel but someone had stolen the drivers side fuel cap. Disconnected the chain from the clasp in the filler neck. SMH.
