United van lines, Allied, Mayflower - Like two-thirds of their trucks have those ridiculous things.

Are they just super rich? Am I missing out? I couldn't afford one of those things running with Landstar, even if I wanted one.

Or is there something about that type of trucking that requires a full apartment? Or is it just tradition?

It's a combination of all those things. A lot of movers stay out for months at a time, chasing the money, following an art show or museum exhibition or conventions, moving specialized equipment. They work hard and have to deal with customers bs every day. So at the end the of the day, if they can afford to have some space to relax in....go for it.

Long layovers, cheaper than a motel. Gross is typically very high. A dependable Truck is a must. Might as well live good.

That makes sense. Although I also stay out for months chasing the money, and I do just fine in my little $60,000 used Cascadia. I wouldn't want to have to worry about blocking every rest area with my mobile palace, and sticking 10 feet out into every truck stop parking lot. It probably helps that they usually have special fancy places to park.

Still, I wouldn't give up my disposable income and months-long world travelling vacations, just to have a Jacuzzi with me everywhere I go... But I guess those millionaires can afford both.

Yeah, that makes sense. They probably have to sit for a week in some random urban parking lot with no place to poop. I forget that they mostly do shows, versus moving regular people's household stuff.

You also have to consider the household line haul guys may have to wait until they have enough shipments put together to fill up their trailer.

I've never seen one in a truck stop except for fueling and never seen one in a rest area.
I think @Ridgeline owns a few of them.

Yeah, I've seen them at truck stops a few times, sticking out all goofy like, but it's rare. Where do they go at night? Maybe they have a fancy secret tunnel like when Homer Simpson joined the stonecutters.
