Why pay Landstar over 30% of the load when you can have 100% with your own numbers?

Sometimes places like LS can be a good stepping stone to those new to ownership but plan on growing into an Independent.

Actually - pretty good advice. It's the exact reason I came here, to see if I would make it, before going full authority.

Like @Ruthless said - some don't even make it leased to a carrier.

And usually blame the carrier for the failures.

The only way,and I repeat The ONLY way your Better off with your own operating authority is if you Approach it as a BUSINESS. Not Some Half Wit "Trucker" With No Desire to learn the business completely 100%.

which means..You Go Get your own Customers,(At Least your Outbound)
You Have a Dispatcher/Planner/Billing Clerk and maintenance Program in Place
You Approach This as a Long Term Operation with Endless Horus of work and Research to keep your head above water and not hovering in the "Red" Constantly.
You don't act and talk like a typical "driver" does...You Manage your Money professionaly withoput any shortcuts or Family members putting their noses where it doesn't belong.

How Do I Know all this? It took it to heart almost 30 years ago and lived the American Dream and then some- If I Retired Right Now- Im Financially Secure until im 92 years old.

You could be right. It's included in what I pay here, but I've never been with LS

Does LS actually share the rate con? I'm frankly sick of how much opportunity parasites/thieves have to take from the true rate before the OOs get to the party.

    Brickwall and Midnightrider909 Thank this.

What we need is a Pay/Pal like service for trucking connecting shippers directly with carriers and giving brokers the boot. They post the load and when a carrier agrees to the rate that amount is placed in an escrow account. When said load is received by the consignee the funds are released to the carrier.

I don't see any value in giving away $104,000/yr to Landstar. That's what I would loose in the larger % they would take over my current agreement with 2 trucks and owned trailers. No discounts on fuel, tires, or insurance could come close to that number.
Like the OP said, why do it?

In the LOSM on the LS board - you can pull all paperwork images from one end to the other to see what is billed and disbursed. I do it from time to time.

I agree on the fuel and tire discounts - in the grand scheme they don't total a lot.

    Insurance is very subjective.

And this all hinges upon the operator knowing their exact worth, in any given region, sector or market - which you apparently do.

    spyder7723 and Ruthless Thank this.

Not everyone wants the full responsibility of having a mc number. Yes, I know it is not that much work in the long run but people think it is. Also, if you run under Landstar's mc you don't pay them like we do when we take a brokered load from them. The numbers on their business partner load board is higher than a regular load board. Landstar takes 30 to 35% off of the Business Partner board when it goes to a non BP.
