What do you tell brokers who ask "why so much?" when you give your rate?

Fuel and maintenance are an owner operators biggest expences. And lets not forget tolls. all these things go up continuously and never go down, but brokers always want you to do it for less or the same rate that you've done it 5 years ago

My business and my life costs X amount but it is Service to the customer that anyone is going to care about. In order to provide good service I have to have my costs met. Being safe, being reliable have immense value.

If they want to book a cheap H/O they will get what they pay for, maybe late load because cheap H/O broke down or blew a tire he cannot afford to fix.

I run premier equipment that will get your load there in one piece. You won't be getting a check call from me stuck at some scale house OOS due to poor equipment, or 'bad news, I am upsidedown in a ditch because my racing slicks couldn't hold the curve.'

I used to work sales for an auto parts distributor...it never failed that some clown would say auto zone has brake pads $5 cheaper...

when i asked why they didnt buy them at auto zone they would tell me auto zone was sold out....

i would always reply that when we were sold out the price was $5 cheaper but when they were in stock the price goes up...
