Power Take Off.
I too find it difficult to understand that a million miler never heard the term pto. I don't drive tanker, but I know what a blower and pump are.
Why would anyone want to pull tanker trailers (as opposed to dry van)?

What are these situations in the real world in which a company driver who pulls dry van trailers would need to know what PTO stands for?Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

In 8 years of dry van and reefer trucking, i have never heard anyone say "i hope the PTO works on this lift so we get our van trailer back."
I don't think i have ever even been unloaded by a machine like that in my entire career.Another Canadian driver and tscottme Thank this. -

Used to unload bulk potatoes like that all the time. But a stationary lift like that wouldnt have a PTO... It would have a dedicated Hydraulic pump... It's not "Taking Power Off" of anything. A PTO is a gearbox that "takes power off" the truck transmission in order to operate another piece of equipment, usually a pump or blower.Numb, Northern Nomad and Another Canadian driver Thank this.
