I work for swift and I did the swift academy

It was $3900, lodging was $500

How it works they deduct $75 from your weekly check and then pay you back half of it after taxes plus they take $26 a week for the lodging until its paid, after a year the $3900 ends up costing you $1900 and yes they keep paying you after the 12 month mark so after another year its completely free.

Now someone asked me why I couldnt get funding for a private school, I answered that in the first post. Unemployment refused to help since I had a degree and they said I was already skilled and workable.

Now would I choose the same route again? Well thats a tough question, I love driving but its hard living on the road away from my wife and kids. Do I care if I left early and they harassed me for the remainder of the money? Nope, talked to a couple people who left, they bother you but never really go after you for it. However I know one driver who left Swift and he came back after a year from a different company, they started where he left off on the loan deducting but they never sued or anything.
They dont treat the new drivers any different than the vets, when im having a slow week so are the ones I talk to who have been with the company for years, it depends on your location, the driver themselves etc.
Some weeks are good and some weeks are crap, my bills get paid but there isnt much extra right now so im not completely happy no.

you seem like a nice guy so I don't want to come off like a #### like I do to other people but just because they don't "come after" you for it doesn't make it free....it's practices like that that probably put you in the position of not being able to walk into a bank and borrow the money to being with.
im turning 28 next month and for the first 22 years of my life I just got high and sold a bit of weed and didn't have a care in the world, but for some reason I always had a fear of ruining my credit. its amazing that I never did, it wasn't hard not to really. I never understood the fuss of credit until the first time I wanted to buy a car, I asked the bank to pre approve me for 10 or 15k, they said, oh shoot, youre good for 30 if you want. haha. it felt nice to have the option.

All due respect, I wouldn't recommend CRST to anyone - I've had too many near death experiences with them tobelieve their training is worth a ####.

Just because you went to a company school doesn't mean the company owns you. It's a loan. You have 2 ways to pay it off.

    1) Sign a employment contract with the company

    2) Make payments yourself. If you end up leaving for whatever reason, you can still make payments without the company making a lashing at your credit report.

Next, the statement "the company gives you crap freight because you went to their school" is wrong. Your DM isn't going to give a crap where your license came from. What matters to your DM and what matters to the safety dept is that you have a license.

Stevens Transport - If you leave before 1 year of service. You owe balance of loan immediately. If you stay at least one year they will continue to finance your loan for the remaining 2 years

My point....IF they have bad frieight, you cant afford to leave before the year is up unless you can come up with that cash. Refinancing for a education loan is more difficult then just financing it from the beginning, plus you would not be eligible for financial aid or government load on a refinance.
