That's way too much for me. I worked all those lousy jobs so I could build my record to should good experience and a reputation as a good driver. Just at that time when we were raising my boy I got the call and was lucky to be with him during all those great years because I was local. I made a plan when I first started and my goal was to work for a major oil company delivering gasoline and be home every day and make good money. I was fortunate to get on with such a company. I got there at the right time when business was booming and we made a ton in overtime. They even change the name of the drivers to Product Delivery Drivers I guess because we had to know a lot more information away from the truck. But with that title came more money. I was able to retire early with the "Golden Handshake" and enjoy life much better knowing that my family was taken care of. Unfortunately hard times even the oil companies and they cut back in every area they could. They took the company drivers and let them go and hired by contract the common carriers to do our work.

But I'll bet there's still companies that were just like the majors and still have the drivers as part of their team. To me if I was starting today I would search out those companies and make it a goal to get on with one of those. Finding one of these high paying, good benefits, and steady relaxed workplace is worth all the bad companies one goes through. This is why most of us say keep your record spotless and your attitude positive so you can fit into one of these jobs. This choice I made was for me and I realize that everyone is different. But I also know that there are really good OTR jobs too or any field that you might want to go into to. In the end you'll want to be able to retire and have enough stashed away you don't have to keep working. I know it's hard to plan for the future when you're young and single. You'll want to buy all those toys and live it big during those years. However, with a little planning you can do both. Think about what you plan to do when you're 66.

That's crazy man. You might as well seriously sit down and weight options like buying a truck and leasing on to a good outfit or owner operator company.

With tj that being said. I wish you all the luck and hope you do well.

3 months out and 1 week off ! Do you REALLY think your going to enjoy it.
The only reason you should even consider this is if they guarantee a set
weekly amount of pay no matter what happens.and we know they ain't going
    to do that.

3 months straight in a truck! Let that sink in!

JB Hunt used to be a terrible company, but I had a friend who went back out of desperation and said they have changed...

I stay out practically all year, I do my dental and medical stuff near the terminal, and I just kinda drift around the country. Lake house in Florida a few weeks ago, then family in Pennsylvania... Thanksgiving was in Florida one year, St.Louis another... Christmas in Florida. Just kinda go with the flow. Sometimes I dont take home time in months and months.

That said...companies need to start relying more on local drivers... they can relay loads anywhere within about 5 hours of the terminal, hardly limited. There are too many good drivers who quit because they cant handle being out two weeks at a time. A company would hardly be limited if they kept OTR drivers solely for freight more than 250 miles away from a terminal. There really isnt any excuse, LTL companies have been doing it for years, and they are hands down the most profitable, despite the highest wages and lowest turnover rates.

Well since gestation is only 9 months, I would question who the father actually is?
