The average weight of an EV battery is 1200 pounds and will produce roughly 300 miles range. If you put 1200 pounds of gas in a car, it will go roughly 5000 miles.

EV's are simply a 'feel good' bs solution. They don't do anything to save the planet;; in fact, factoring in the heavy equipment that digs up the rare earth, the huge tonka trucks that transport it to the diesel powered crusher, the refining operations, even the diesel powered car haulers which bring them to the dealerships, an EV would have to run about 2 million miles each to break even on the carbon footprint. Most of them fail around 300,000 miles before they need a new battery.

The battery cannot be recycled and in the off chance it catches on fire, it may take hours to days to put the toxic fire out and think of all the hazmat going into the ground/water supply....

California currently produces about 3 gigawatts of electricity and is still a little short on heavy use days. By 2035 when the mandate for no more internal combustion engined cars kicks in (they already have banned lawnmowers, leafblowers, chainsaws etc as of Jan 2024), California will need 60 gigawatts to power the state.

Predictions are that Californians will be using candles to light the night.

Has anyone calculated the pollution from one ev car fire ?
How many millions of miles you can drive a new gasoline Honda accord or a F-150 to generate the same air pollution as the EV fire makes ?

These EV autos can burn for 2 days and take several thousand gallons of water to extinguish. I read of an incident where they dug a hole on the side of the road, put the car in it and filled it with water.

Imagine how long a EV Peterbilt or Tesla truck would burn.

How long before one does this on an underground parking garage , beneath a very expensive condo complex or something ?

or in a tunnel in a major city ?

The fire department won’t be able to even enter the underground enclosed space because of the poison smoke .

it would be like those ships that keep catching on fire

I haul crude oil and am an EV agnostic. Drive what you want I say, but just know that every year those EV batteries will lose 3-5% of capacity due to usage fade. Also, there is also cold weather fade: If the temperature drops under 20 degrees F, what’s left in your battery capacity will drop another 20%.

Also, you won’t be doing anything but keeping gas affordable (which I appreciate) because 80% of our energy comes from fossil fuels. All the electricity powering EVs will still come from oil/natural gas. Until we get serious about nuclear energy that will not change.

    Yep

they are just driving a coal powered car .
Like the old coal powered locomotive’s a hundred and fifty years ago .

    I get it ,
I love my battery powered weed whacker

love my battery powered drills and saws

but until I can buy a used EV for $3,500 that will travel 400 miles on a five minute recharge , like my 2006 ford expedition does , I’m just not financially able to spend that kind of cash for a glorified golf cart that has to have a 50 minute recharge every 200 miles , and I’ve heard the stories about finding a charger that’s available and ACTUALLY works .

Unless you live in or near a metropolis, EVs just make little sense. You can always buy a hybrid if you want to cut back on the gas.

This year my business bought two hybrid Powerboost F-150s. Not because I'm green, but to test the technology and because Ford gives you the most HP and TQ for their Ecoboost 3.5 engine when you add the hybrid option. Both of us are anxiously awaiting a tune from Livernois Motorsports that adds 100hp and 90tq on the 20-22 trucks and runs 12.55 in the 1/4 mile. That's shagging in an F-150.

One truck runs 160 miles round trip five days a week, and my truck travels 12 miles round trip to work. I live in a mountainous town, and the truck runs 24% on the battery and gets 19 mpg commuting.
