I figured the meds could end up being a problem. As far as the time unemployed. No matter what industry I get into, my plan is to just say I've been a stay-at-home dad. It ain't lyin, even if it ain't the whole truth either.
Wondering if trucking might be a good fit for me

The reason I say this is because a few seconds of inattention can easily kill when you are driving 40 tons of loaded truck down the road.
There are thousands of warehouse jobs available though. Practically every single distribution center, manufacturing facility, or warehouse I roll by has a help wanted sign out front.
If you do well with a forklift loading, unloading, order picking, etc., for a couple years, then maybe look into trucking.
If you can stay drug free for more than a year, then maybe look into trucking. You will pass a drug test sooner than that (if you cut your hair regularly) but can you stay clean?Texas_hwy_287, 88228822, FlaSwampRat and 1 other person Thank this. -
Inattentiveness isn't really one of my weaknesses. If anything it's the opposite, I hyperfocus. Though I guess that could be a problem too.
Staying clean is definitely not a problem for me. I only ever tried marijuana at my doctor's recommendation, and I know now that it isn't good for me. I've never even tried any other illegal drug.
I'll definitely look into warehouse jobs though.

Whatever your medical history you're certainly thinking rationally and functioning at a high level.
Like the Florida rat said in his excellent post there are certainly options that would fit your psyche, and you seem more honest about yourself than a lot of prospective drivers.
I dont know about specific prescription drugs that are a nono but someone on here will. Yhe other kind are a definite non starter as you already knowCowboy Dreaming Thanks this. -
Don't reveal anything you don't absolutely have to. Some people talk so much they sabotage any job prospects.

If the state will pay for cdl school, then go for it.
You'll find something.
Stay-at-home-dad seems like a winner. Many drivers, some on this forum, did the same.Texas_hwy_287, dunchues, FlaSwampRat and 1 other person Thank this. -

If your the loner type and dont need to be home alot , trucking would be good for you to try out and see if ya like it. The hurdles you have are not that high Imo.

You sound like a good candidate for OTR driver.
Most communication is over the ELD in writing anyways.
I'm not sure on the drug issue. Most these big companies have the common horse sense of the back end of a donkey. Have to think about who. Am sure there are companies who'd love to have you. You have the personality of an OTR driver. If they could, they'd diagnose all of us as nuts. Give us drugs. Really screw us up. When all we need is to stay away from the craziness of society. Remember... many people can't be alone because they can't stand themselves. If you're happy alone.... you're at peace with yourself.Texas_hwy_287, D.Tibbitt, dunchues and 4 others Thank this. -
