Okay so im pretty tired of being a company driver with swift. I was actually suggested by my mentor about working under a small fleet owner op. I thought about it and i said ehh why not. So i talked to one owner op and it is willing to accept me despite my experience. However being the fact that swift has given me a vnl 780 over the past few weeks i fell in love with this truck and i dont want to part away from it. So i was wondering should i ask him if he can buy it. The mileage is at 451544. Which is fine with me i dont like them too old or brand new. Its decent on the fuel economy around 6-8 miles per gallon there has been some clutch work and they also had to replace the 5th wheel. So idk. So far no problems from my experience. Rides great and pulls hard with no problem. So should i ask if he could buy it. I know when i talked to him he said he would buy another volvo since thats my choice of truck. But i would perfer a 780. E
Perferably the one i drive now.

Will you have any benefits with the small fleet owner?
Sure, ask him, but he's going to look at his bottom line and if the truck meets his business criteria. Since you're going to be a company driver and not an 0/0, look at some other companies that have nice Volvo's. SVTN has beautiful Volvos & hires new CDL grads. I know this doesn't answer your question, but just an option to consider.

I will answer as a small fleet owner that runs Volvos...I personally don't see the value proposition of the 780 for a company truck. They weigh more and cost more with no comparable benefit for a fleet owner. They really are for teams or owner-operators or maybe a reward truck for a really exceptionable driver. Despite that, if you can convince him to buy it, go ahead!

I should add I would also not be interested in buying a Swift truck. Their super-extended service intervals and student drivers are a bad combination for long-term durability. I have a friend that is a small fleet owner that regrets buying several 2007 Volvo 670s that came out of Swift. He ran into a lot of major engine and transmission work at premature mileages. Obviously, that report is anecdotal but it is enough to cause me some caution.
