Do some of you guys out here stick with 1 broker to build a relationship or just what ever you can get where ever you are? Because I am an Owner operator and it seems like I have to take whatever I can get depending on where I am empty and trying to get to.

That is my way also, some call that model reckless or transactional LOL
Works for me but:
1.I can afford to sit home longer periods of time.
2.Very supportive family.
3.Home base is half way between Chicago and Madison WI. (can be a hell or blessing depends on market condition...)
3.Title on hand equipment ('01 Volvo and '15 dry van Hyundai).double yellow Thanks this. -
Yes understand I live in Tampa Florida. Same here a lot of times I will just dead head to a lane that's paying good. I refuse to work for 1.00 per mile. That's the rate coming out of Florida it's a disgrace! That anyone works for that. I don't care if they are going home or not. My opinion and it's not worth much. The truck might as well sit for a dollar a mile. I have a dry van also. But if you can get to Georgia I can get 2.00 per mIle go figure? ?

Hi everyone, i signed up here because TQL is at my school recruiting this week, and as much as i want to get into this general type of sales esque work for some experience (business student, supply chain), i won't do it if i cant work for someone who actually wants to build a good relationship with the people they work with. Should i just avoid them all together, or could i work there without being a total cutthroat about it, and actually try to build working relationships?

Go and do it get your experience, learning what not to do is just as valuable as knowing what to do. Just don't let THEM pimp YOU.

I work with a guy who used to work at TQL and not only as he told us on numerous times how shady they were, but he himself seems a bit shady.

Other than low rates and their fishing schemes, what irritates me most about TQL is their amateur agents. They won't give me the dispatch information with the rate sheet, and have on several occasions withheld the shippers name until the last minute. Worse yet is that they call two to three times a day for a location update. Good brokers, the ones that I enjoy working with, will tell me to call when loaded and again when empty. Good brokers don't have to worry about where a carrier is because they don't hire the lowest bidder. We have a good track record with TQL, but the kids acting as agents don't have a clue.

Well, as far as checking information, calling 2-3 times a day for location updates shouldn't be that big a deal. I could see 5-10 being a complaint, but checking in location 2-3 times a day? Its our money on the line too and we need to know where you are, especially if its the first couple times we've worked with you. Just trying to explain it from our side.
