10 months of driving experience, no incidents. Over the weekend, I was at a Pilot in MD. While I was taking a shower, another driver damaged the front end of my truck because he decided turning wide is optional. I take down information, get photos, then report to Safety Dept. Camera on the truck caught everything. I was parked in a designated spot and all the way back into the spot, so no blame that may be put on me.

Get a call from Safety informing me that I am being written up because I was logged into sleeper berth while out of the truck.

Not sure what to make of this. I understand that technically it's a valid point, but on the other hand, it sure seems to be splitting hairs.

    Thoughts?

Edit: Call from Safety came in yesterday.

Sounds like they are just looking for a reason to throw you under the bus. If you were parked in a legal space and off duty, then you should be relieved of responsibility for that accident. The DOT could nitpick your logs, but the company shouldn't have any cause to.

Ehh... technically they are right but it seems like a pretty dumb reason for a right up. I always did the same thing. Maybe for some reason the insurance won’t cover it because of that, then I could understand but that doesn’t seem very likely.

Safety folks have this chip on their shoulder so they have to prove that they are worth the money they are being paid. A mega carrier would be better served by a janitor appointed to safety k

They are splitting hairs and lookin for a scape goat for sure...
Even if you were in the bunk(we will say sleeping),how would that stop the accident anyways. ....
I would be after them to eliminate all that put ANY blame in your direction..Now quietly start looking for a better place to continue your career...Keep a record of this come a future interview..
