Not crazy... asinine. My terminal up to a couple months ago would have killed to have OTR guys coming in off the streets, they ended up filling their driver scrolls with apprentice positions for people to get their CDL through FedEx.

It is probably a Florida phenomenon. Way more drivers than good paying jobs down here. $18 per hour CDL A jobs get snapped up in 2 or 3 days. The better paying LTLs can be as picky as they want to be.BigDog Trucker Thanks this.

Yeah ltl doesn't hire in my neck of the woods. I happen to be blessed - to be honest though it's hard to find people who don't smoke the Marijuana with all endorsements and experience.
We use hair follicle so ain't no lying.BigDog Trucker Thanks this. -

Whats the top out pay at AAA @jgarciajr40

I'm coming from over the road and I live down around fort myers, florida looking for local work and my issue IS the pay. The idea of doing more work for less pay just... well, it seriously affects morale for me. Loading/ unloading truck driving jobs for 15-17 bucks an hour just isn't appealing. Starting to think the only way I can make any money in the trucking industry while living down here is by putting other drivers in trucks over the road. -
XPO is on the low end of LTL pay, but you are right that you may well wind up doing more physical work for less pay going local (especially in FL) than you did OTR. That has been my experience anyway. I really missed the money at first as I was taking home half as much as I did OTR, but I soon adapted to it

Something you have to keep in mind, is once you sign on as a local driver you’ll have something to deal with that you didn’t when you were a road driver, and that is the commute. There will be days you’ll drive home and only have time to eat and sleep, only to have the leave the house again in 8 hours or so with 5 hours of sleep if you’re lucky.NoobiDriver, Redtwin, Cardfan89 and 1 other person Thank this.
