Union freight company nearly 100 years old.
Economy dictates how many work or new hires.
Teamster union trying to stop outsourced movements.
If you can get a few years under your belt you may be able to weather the slow economic periods or seasonal slowdowns when they typically lay off.
As a bottom member you'll get crap bids running older units but that's how it works.
Mostly a livable wage and paid insurance benefits.

Yellow is a good choice. If they'll hire you, then go for it.

Oh boy did you just pull that genie out of the bottle with your questions.

Next week is my last one with them. Up until last year, Yellow was actually four different companies. Three of the four regionals were actually decent and I would fight you to the end to get hired on with either Holland or Reddaway. But it doesn't matter anymore since they are now directly run by YRC where complete incompetence is a prerequisites to being on the corporate side.

First off, they are $1,900,000,000 in debt. This is after they suckered congress into giving them $750,000,000 in 2020. Second off, their operating ratio is 98/100. That means for every dollar it brings in, it makes two pennies in profit. It's absolutely atrocious that the government would be dumb enough to bail them out. But hey, it's the governmet and I probably should have lowered my expectations.

Then you gotta look at the business side. The people that ship with YRC hate Holland. The people that ship with Holland really really REALLY hate YRC with the burning sensation of 5000 white glowing suns. I mean, what better idea than to merge these companies into one? They are now adopting YRC's stupid linehaul system. It's fun to sit on the dock until 12 PM cause everything is getting held up.

I haven't even got to the really bad part yet. My Columbia terminal covers Columbia, Charleston, Florence, and Augusta Georgia. Well guess what? Charleston, Florence, and Augusta all have YRC terminals that already service those areas. So instead of running us out to those places, there is nothing from stopping them from absorbing those zip codes. What that means, we won't need as many drivers. You could very well find yourself on the chopping block because your new home terminal may have a change of operations (CHOP) and ceede some of it's service area to nearby terminals.

So yeah. Signing on with Yellow is like buying tickets to the Titanic AFTER it has already hit the iceberg. This ship is going down quick and you don't want to be on it when it sinks.

LOL!!! I worked a "dark" (no onsite mngmt) end-of-line barn for 1.5 years. Couldn't get out of that cesspool fast enough. It boggles my mind how they're still operating.
