This happened north of exit 8 about about 2 miles south of x14 us 58. Not the long grade (climb) entering Virginia from NC. This section actually has a long slight downhill grade.
Sat in southbound back up and saw it in person Friday afternoon

It looked pretty bad. The Smith truck cab was sheared completely off the frame.

Something "big" happened around the 3mm north bound. It was getting dark and I could never figured out what was going on. All I saw was everything was at a standstill.

The only way I could see an accident like that happening is if someone was stuck behind a slower truck in the granny lane and then decided to overtake them in the hammer lane, only not realizing that there was already a faster truck in the hammer lane.
    End result-catastrophe!

1st Fed-Wrecks in the crash news in a while. Good to know they can still put a set in the ditch like the good ole days.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I drive through there all the time and I give every driver a WIDE berth, because so many act like fools in a nascar race. So little concern for safety of themselves and others.

Winter is closing in fast I'm sure they will get their crash numbers back up where we expect them to be.

Rain, plus speed coming up on a slow moving truck, plus driver not paying attention equals truck A hitting the brakes hard and swerving in front of Truck B who panics and fishtail sending cars scurrying everywhich way before putting himself in the ditch.

It takes some effort, but is doable. Happened in front of me on I44 eastbound approaching St Louis on an upgrade. Just people not paying attention and leaving themselves an out left a couple of trucks in the ditch.
