A friend sent this to me awhile back. This place is called the tail of the dragon,
And this is one place you don't want to take a big truck. Actualy it would be scarey going thru there in a four wheeler.
here's the link...

oh yes. that is a wild ride. sadley enough truckers get caught on it cause in the map book it is legal for a trucker. i have heard the rumors of drivers get stuck in turns and having to be pulled out of there. i think it would be cool to drive it on a bike.

Is it a major shortcut or something? Why would a truck even ATTEMPT it?
Why don't they just ban trucks from it? They do in enough other places and on enough other roads. -
My Pc miler sent me thru the north side of the smokies awhile back and I learned a good leason, The heck with saving the company money if I don't know the road, And have doubts about safety I am not going that way. I got realy concerned on that trip, I went thru a snake shaped road and was going down a hill and went into a curve and my wheels were sucked all the way up and I wan't sure I was going to be able to make it. my steer tires were on one side of the road and my trl tires were on the other side, on the shoulder's. Thank God nothin was coming...

not it' not and if you look at a map book the road is shown as a passable road. i have never been on it, guess i am lucky that way.

I was actually routed this way a couple of weeks ago. We're not "forced" to comply with routing, so I rarely even look at it. But due to mY location and my destination, I took a quick glance then fired up my PC and routing software.
I took a route equal in distance...But I'm sure it was not as fun. I spent 3 hours going 105 miles, never got above 7th gear running light/almost empty.
GA 348 (between Clarkesville & Ivy Log) isn't listed as a truck route, however it is not restricted. This was one of my shortcut choices, not a good one either. I met 3 cars and ZERO trucks that morning, in that stretch of 348. -

LMAO...what are you going to do when your customer is located 8 miles down a narrow road that turns to dirt? Call them to come get it?
I agree with you mostly. But just because your map doesn't highlight it as a truck route, doesn't mean it isn't.
I've picked up loads in pastures, woods, and other places you would not believe. -
