Also shippers and recievers have caused myself and many others to choke on a forced promise you will deliver on that day and hour. Says who? Wait a moment, we have 2000 miles of ice storm and mountains snow that will need dealing with to do this safely or the load does not arrive at all potentially.
There are so many issues with hours of service in direct conflict with the shippers and recievers I say.
Also... they are designed in elecronic form to control and corral drivers like myself who reveled in making it across PA in about three hours and change and into Indiana on paper before the 10th hour is up in the old days. Get somewhere and find that you are a day early. Use that time to do chores, clean cab and sleeper, laundry, eat well and rest up for you are going to run hard again after the delivery is made.
In electronic logs might as well document all of it in both a journal book and save a copy of your logs, failing that save enough information in writing to your journal (Which is not a legal document, just a story book...) that will allow you to reconstruct your trips in paper form for the state unemployment should you be fired...
The future is going to be built on the bodies of myself and all those who are determined not to allow Uncle Sam and his laws to stop the truck 20 miles from delivery knowing being fired within the hour is a real possibility.
I hate to press on and add one more thought.
The firings should stop. Fire a good driver like me with 31 years experience because you hate to make a phone call and grovel for a new appointment? And put a immigrant who is scared to death trying to learn everything at once here in a New Country? HA. The firing is on you Mr Dispatcher. You plunder and destroy the one bedrock resource that will carry you through these difficult times. We can still stop the ELD from being a LAW. It's already been done once. The HOS will never be repealed it's too late. Not to mention, ELDs can still be cheated.
Oh, and wouldn't be insulting people in regards to "low IQ" when you cannot even use proper English grammar, punctuation NOR spelling. Don't be such a hypocrite, professor. -
Hours of services needs to be change. Get rid of that stupid 30 min break. I wanna take a break when I actually need a break. Why is it canada can driving 13 hours and the United States only 11? I thought we were better? Get rid of recap and u0 rule, why can I work 3 jobs before and bank hours but I can't do that with 1 job?
