Either Crete spoke to someone higher up on the DOT food chain with more knowledge, or there is a pilot program that Crete / Shaffer / Hunt is involved in, because leaving a receiver while on line 5 with an empty trailer and traveling to a safe place to park and rest is not just allowed, it's official company policy that you can do so.
I have extreme doubts that Crete would have a company policy to do something illegal. That leads to insane lawsuits.

I make it a point to let the dock no when im down to 2 hours and when i get to less than one I let them know im dropping the trailer and will be back in 10 to pick it up. I've never had a problem or been told no (dry van)
