    How practical is this?? Ridiculous.....

I Don't like this because now.Its giving recovery companies a Leg up on the new ELD Bullcr@p

The Stupidity of your typical mega paying $600 to tow a truck out of hours 8 miles to a truckstop or wherever........How does this make financial sense? It doesn't Wasteful spending and if it keeps up..(Just like everything else) Becomes the norm.

This Driver couldn't just leave and park nearby? or Just "Edit" This ELD thing when he did get parked?

I Don't Like this stupidity at all.....Really Makes being a Driver look stupid and impractical.

Yeah and I bet the shipper/receiver gives a rats ### if the trucking company decides not to do business with them anymore after that towing bs. They probably think who cares there are a 1000 other companies that will. But I'm sure a mega carrier won't bail they rather lose a driver then lose an account and pay the $600 tow because in the long run that $600 is nothing compared to what they make from that account.

They didn't tow the truck away they towed them to the truck stop so he could take his 10 hours. Seems crazy to me but I guess that's how they do it at the Megas.

How Embarrassing is that? How degrading would it be to have your company come tow your truck because your out of hours?

Its laughable to say the Least- Everyone looking at you in Raw Shock because its getting Towed and Theres nothing Wrong with you or the truck- ......

if it was me- A Discussion wouldn't even have been mentioned- Truck would be in a safe place....Hours available or not.

Sadly- We Don't have Men anymore in this industry.

    Sorta.

Reefers will consume the lions share of the HOS problems and it will only worsen. Americold is not going to load you any faster because you are going to be out of hours in 30 minutes. You will load when they do it and not a day before.

A big workaround with reefers to HOS problems and conflicts is the simple drop hook. Once you find that niche, it's 15 minutes on the log problem instead of potentially days.

Once shippers and recievers are identified as being consistant violators or destroyers of HOS etc then the company should buy a batch of day cabs to serve that particular facility if it is big enough and have enough loads. Sleeper trucks will then go into the day cab yard's drop lot to do a drop hook.

I could care less if that was a tow truck on there. It's not a problem. They are there because THERE IS a problem. Twice we were towed because the auto bricked on us destroying a JIT delivery and no one could understand what that meant. The recurring bricking was because we never shut down as a team and the manual for that auto requires a period of time each week off. And so orders came down to dispatch to give us a half day once a week to do that. A half day to do nothing which was beneficial anyhow because we had chores, fueling and so on to do.

I'll agree that there is a awful lot of loss of so called men in this industry as the old ones dies off.

A cheaper solution vs a tow truck with it's thousand dollar a hour or whatever is to bobtail another driver to get that trailer. Im pretty sure you can reach anywhere in the USA with a bobtail on a tank of fuel or two. The original driver is likely not to have hours back for a while anyway.

It was at a P&G facility and he had to leave the property after they ran him out of hours loading him. So, he pulled out the gate and parked it.

Things are going to change.... definitely.
Right now the industry is exploding, due to lack of trucks. Shipments aren't moving. Prices are going right through the roof.
There is talk of rejecting loads. Unless there is a fine built into the contract, to the shippers and receivers, for wasting the drivers time.
Shippers and receivers don't like it? Let the problem continue. Keep rejecting loads. Keep offering higher and higher prices to the carriers to take the load.
    This will change.... definitely.

If this happens, there are several options.
    1. DOT does allow you up to two hours to find a safe haven to park.
They don't consider a truck stop or rest area a safe haven. It is any place that you can legally get of the road and park.
    2. Notify safety and explain the situation to them. Let them take the responsibility.
    3. Make notes on your ELOG accordingly. This will save you any headaches down the road.
    4. Do not use PC to leave the property unless the customer is willing to let you drop the trailer and return the next morning. You can have no forward load movement on PC.
    I've used this several times.
You PC to rest area or truck stop close by, PC back in the morning. Start your log. Everything stays legal.
