I've been offer a driving position with both of these companies. Does anyone have any suggestions or input as to which one would be better? I will generally stay out 3 to 6 weeks at a time and I'm willing to run the entire lower 48

Just from my limited knowledge, Magnum probably pays better and has nicer trucks, but GPT has longer loads.

You can go to the "Discuss your favorite trucking company here" forum and they both have long threads on them by former and current drivers, pretty informative.

Magnum driver here. I've been with Magnum since July this year. This is my first company.

We don't run the entire 48, but we do run most of the country. there isn't much going to Florida, California, or any further northeast than Massachusetts. At least I've not been to those places yet.

I'm not sure what my weekly average is for miles, but I shoot for at least 3,000 miles a week. It's not hard to do that, if that's what you want. If you're willing to work, we have the miles. I'm sure there are people getting 2000 miles a week here. Everyone has their own goals and work ethics.

Everyone has different goals and responsibilities in their lives. I have only gone on Hometime once. I have no need to go home. Magnum keeps me busy. Other people have families and go home a few times a month. You can generally go home whenever you want for as long as you want, you just need to give 10 days notice for Hometime.

We have 2014 and newer Peterbilt 579 for all OTR drivers. All trucks have APU, refrigerator, 2000 watt converter and TV mount pre-installed (tv not included). They all also have onboard GPS, SiriusXM (driver pays for subscription) and we use Peoplenet for elogs.

New drivers start at .36 a mile after training for 6 months. Then we have pay by performance.

Our recruiters name is Tony. He's got no reason to lie to you about anything. He's also the driver relations manager. So he's not just gonna tell you what you wanna hear to get you here. Check out our website magnumlog.com and give him a call. As mentioned, check out our Magnum thread. We have a great time on the road and on the forum!

Edit for clarification: that's your pay for 6 months. Training with a trainer does not last 6 months.
