How to Post and Quote an external source/article

Occasionally, We have members that do not know how to post a thread or properly quote a external source/article. I have put together a small visual as a guideline for members to use if they are not sure on how to accomplish this. It does not have to be followed exactly. The minimum standard per TOS will be TWO paragraphs quoted and a link provided from that source, per Plagiarism & Copyright rules.

To Start a thread,

Pick the correct section of the forum to start a thread. In that section, On the left side before the listing of the threads is a button "New Thread"(as pictured below). Click that button and opens a new screen called "Post New Thread".

Here is where you insert the "Title" of your thread(as pictured below).

After inserting the title to your thread. The system will search for similar or duplicate posts. (See picture 11 for example). *Please refrain from posting similar/duplicate threads or they may get merged with another thread*

Below the title box you have the "message box". Inside the message box, post the headline of the source/article.

To put the quote brackets inside the message box, there is a toolbar in that message box. If you run your pointer over it, it will tell you what each one does. Click the one that says "Wrap

tags around selected text"

It will automatically insert it into the message box for you.

Once you have the quote brackets inserted in the message box. You will copy and paste two paragraphs of the source/article between the brackets (as pictured below).

Either inside or outside of the quote brackets, you need to supply the link of the source/article. On the toolbar of that message box, move your pointer over and click "Insert Link" (as pictured below).

It will open a small box where you can either paste the headline or just paste the Url/address link inside the box from the source/article.

Remember, If you paste the headline of the story in the "http://" box as the link to the source/article. You will need to do a couple extra steps shown in Picture 6,7,8 and 9. This is not required but some members like to do this.

* Extra note, Inside that box, it will give you "http://" If you leave it shaded, you can post over it with the whole link you provide. If you do not leave it shaded, you will have a double "http://" and the link will probably not work for you. *

The next four pictures are for members who may want to use the headline inside the "http://" box as the link to the source/article. This will demonstrate on how to do this.

After posting the headline in the "http://" box, you will need to provide the actual link of the source/article, for the link to work.

Take your pointer and left click, dragging it across the headline of the link. This should shade the link (as pictured below). Leave it shaded

Go to the source/article and copy the Url (address), (as pictured below).

Go back to the screen with your message box. Leaving the headline link shaded in the message box, On the toolbar of that message box, move your pointer over and click "Insert Link" (as pictured below). Pasted the Url (address) of the source/article and click ok.

If you do not do this step properly, your link will be invalid and bring it back to this site. See picture 10 below on how to preview and test your link.

After you have completed all the steps above, you can preview your message and make sure the link works before you submit the new thread.

Below the message box, You will see two buttons, click the one on the right labeled "Preview Post" (as pictured below). It will update and give you a new screen. The upper portion of the screen. You will see what it looks like when posted in the forum. That is where you can click your link and make sure it works before submitting the new thread. This also gives you the chance to edit your post below that screen, if needed.

If your satisfied with your post, click the "Submit New Thread" button below the message box and it will post in the forum section you have chosen.

When you start or submit a thread. After putting a headline in the "Title" box. The system will automatically look for similar or duplicate posts. You will see this above the message box (as pictured below). Please look at the threads it offers before you start another thread of the same topic.

When you guys (gals) get a chance we ask you look over the enclosed links to threads on the subject
For legal reasons we ask that all future threads or post's be handled this way (when suppling out sourced material)
Its only polite, legal and fair to the person or site originating the article get credit
We wont necessarily be giving out infractions
But you will be asked to fix your post's
Heck sometimes we will even fix them for you

90% of post's already follow these guidlines (thank you)
But we do get new members all the time

Be warned that if it becomes a habit
Threads that do not fit with in our TOS in regards to this will be deleted
We don't want to do this, but it gets pretty busy sometimes
Thank you in advance

We appreciate all the great post's and threads
The amount of knowledge that comes from this board is amazing
