Flatbed work is extremely physical, with lots of climbing and balancing. How physically fit are you aside from your weight? Good on ladders? Good endurance?

 

Have a backup plan in case Maverick doesn't work out for you.

I would not quit my job to go down to try something that you already have doubts that you might not be able to pass so keep what you got

 

Flatbeds aren't for everyone. By talking to other drivers and seeing them on the road, mostly all of their loads are tarped whether they need to be or not. 8 ft tarps are not light and are awkward to carry. Although many forklift operators will place them on top of the load for you, you still have to roll them out and drape them evenly. It's just a LOT of up & down on & off the trailer/load, you'll be sweating no matter what season it is.

My advice, find a flatbed, climb up on it, pick up some tarps and walk around with them. If you can't do it then I would either delay the orientation until you feel comfortable or not do it all together

Good advice

 

Nothing for the school. But during orientation you have to climb in/out of the trailer. Plus be able to get under the truck to check the slack adjusters. If you're too big for that. Then you shouldn't be a driver.
