Now I’ve been OK with it at the major corporate places but I picked up a load today in New York. The place was very sketchy. A warehouse worker finished loading my truck and this guy was foreign didn’t even speak English and he comes up to my truck knocks on the door has me sign the paperwork. Then he asked to take my ID so he can make a copy of it and I told him no.
do you realize what you can do in this day and age with someone’s identification? Pretty much anything. Now this has been Walmart, some major distributor I may have been OK with it. Usually they throw it out. This was some back alleyway shipper with all illegals working there. No way!
Your thoughts?
Shippers that want to copy your ID? How do you feel about it?

I picked up a load once that required a picture of me and my truck and even was finger printed. Happens.

I use a fake ID. Can get them online. Can get a photo drivers license on line with fake name and address.
I got a fake fork lift license online so I can use the shippers/receivers forklift. No one ever questioned it. -

I think I was the creator of an ID policy at a former employer.
It's a set, scheduled run I do every day. Pick up parts and deliver to GM plant. Plant was working on a Saturday (not uncommon) and went to pick up the parts. New security guard I've never seen before wants to see my CDL. Ok, no problem. They don't ask every time, but they do spot checks. They write down the name on the ID and move on. This time he insisted on taking it from the guard shack, to the building 100+ yards away to make a copy. I refused.
He refused to let me pick up the parts. After getting my manager involved his manager, his manager's manager, Ryder (3pl that handles GM's logistics), GM (the customer who I delivered to) involved they finally allowed me to pick up the load.
A week later we are all getting pictures for an ID card.
I mean it could have been in the works, but....
I don't mind a company looking at my license.and even writing down the name/number on it. That's all they need though. Anything else, or a copy, or whatever is not happening. And it will never leave my hands. They can copy the information while I hold it.D.Tibbitt, KB3MMX, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 5 others Thank this. -
Those are the kind of loads that have people tracking your truck, closely. Take a wrong turn and they will be calling you within a few minutes.
They get a copy when you check in, not when you are already loaded and ready to leave.
If that place simply came out with the paperwork and let you leave, then there probably was something shady going on.KB3MMX, CrappieJunkie, ibcalm19 and 2 others Thank this. -
