Bounced off Baltimore with a load of Clorox coming to Costco DC in Morris IL but there was a bit of confusion on the appointment times. Got there yesterday 1100ish to see if they would consider unloading me early instead of 0830 this morning but no love for this Driver and they told me it wasn’t scheduled until Monday. I think I know what happened there but FCC quickly arranged me swapping this morning with another Driver in the area that was going home for the weekend and i took his MT on to my next load heading back to NE.

Sitting in Beatrice tonight and will DnH this load first thing in the morning then bounce over to Crete for a load returning to Mt Juliet TN for Monday. Will find a place along the way to grab a 34 on Sunday and hang out with the wife for a bit.

    stay safe

A funny story about Beatrice, one of our drivers got pulled over on us77 by a Nebraska state trooper, he asked the drive “where are coming from?” The driver replies “Beat-Rice.” “ Where?” The trooper asks again. “The town of Beat-Rice sir.” “You mean Be-at-rus?” the trooper says laughing hysterically. “Have a nice day, and slow down driver.” The trooper walks back to his cruiser shaking his head and wondering about them boys from the South.

I laugh because there is a corporation named the same as that city, but they pronounce it "Be-uh-triss". And it depends on what southern state. The people in TX pronounce Houston as "hue-stun", but GA has county spelled the same way and I was told the locals pronounce it "how-stun"

GA is a whole other world in pronunciations! Like Cordele. You’d think it’s pronounced like Core-dell. Nope. Cor-deal. Colquitt is Kol-quit. Cairo is Kay-ro. And the way they pronounce Donalsonville, we’ll, I can’t even! Yeah, I go to all these hole in the wall peanut places and then some around there.

So I dropped at Beat-Rice this morning but it was my first time there and details on the QC was rather limited. No one on-site knew what they normally do but it all worked out.

Get to Crete and my trailer isn’t loaded yet but it is on the dock. So I drop my MT up the hill…

    but…

I get stuck in a #### mud hole trying to get out from under it. I already dumped the air bags but just couldn’t get traction. Flipped the differential lock switch and nothing. I rocked it a bit but kept hooking the kingpin… LOL … inflated the air bags hoping the weight of the trailer might help. Nope.

Finally I just reconnected to the trailer and pushed it back a few more feet so the drives were up on the back side of the pit and tried again. Whew, made it but I had a moment thinking I wasn’t going to get to the other side. :)

I really didn’t want to toss chains on to get out of a mud hole… LOL

Quick question in the Differential Lock Switch… that’s supposed to lock both axles together right so if one spins the other one should still try to move right?

When I flipped it on it didn’t seem to make a difference at all. Just seemed strange but I’ve been lucky to rarely need to use it and probably the first time in this truck.

    Am I thinking wrong?

That's the concept. Lock it and the other one won't be able to spin. Usually i have to turn the traction control off too for it to work properly.

It makes it so one set of tires on each axle gets power. If it's a Freightliner or KW, it isn't an axle lock like on an off road vehicle(unless FCC equips their trucks with axle lockers), it's a power divider so both diffs get drive power. I have a Volvo, and I have an axle lock switch and a diff lock switch. If I flip the axle lock, my front diff locks so both sides spin, if I flip the diff lock, it's like most fleet trucks. Lose traction on a set of tires on each axle and you're stuck.
