Hi, I'm new here. Looking at doing a paid to get CDL program. I applied to Halvor a couple weeks ago. I got denied today. Not sure if it's because they ran a credit check, in a bad stretch right now, or if it's because I took too long to get my DOT exam (did it last week) and CLP (tomorrow). Reading through this thread it looks like that was for the best.

There's a new review posted a few days ago here on Truckers Report that seems to be made by a very observant and educated individual.

Basically it says that Halvor charges $10000 for their school- but there is a clause in the contract that says the student owes the money to Halvor if they are terminated before the school is complete.

In other words, Halvor can terminate a student and then demand they pay $10000 (or whatever balance is owed) to Halvor. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Halvor will use this to their advantage in order to make money.

    1) Run a students credit, make sure they have good credit
    2) Entice them to join the program, have them sign the contract
    3) Terminate them and demand payment of $10000

Do that 10 times and it's $100000. 100 times and they have made a million.
Seems like Halvor has found a side hustle to their teetering trucking business. As the reviewer said its a questionable business practice and I'm wondering if it's legal.

The reviewer also says that Halvor fires students 'abruptly' and with 'little or no notice'. Also students have been fired for 'messy hotel rooms'.

Most of you are probably aware that Halvor requires 1 year of employment with them after the driving school is completed. What most don't know is that Halvor also has a mileage requirement to be met- I think it's 125000 miles. In other words, if they only dispatch you 8000/ miles a month, or if you take any time off, you will be working for Halvor 18 maybe 20 months not 1 year.

If you can't find the review Google 'Halvor lines truckers report'

It's been 3 weeks now since that driving school review was posted here on TR and also on Halvors review page Google listing- and there has been no response by Halvor.

Yet they were quick to respond to reviews such as 'great company' 'love working here' and 'I got free lunch'.

Don't worry, they've opened themselves up to a bunch of legal problems.

If I were a student there..
    1) Know that your belongings at the hotel might be gone through while you are at school
    2) Be aware you can be dismissed for any reason, including 'messy' hotel room
    3) Be aware that you owe Halvor the full amount $10000 upon dismissal.

Halvor lines management, owners, and brown noser drivers like to laugh uncomfortably and pretend this forum doesn't exist. Or that none of these things ever happened.

    Absolutely!

Newbies don't know this, have no idea what they are walking into.. hence the need for message boards like TR to share information.

    (That's a good thing)
