Feeling corny in Iowa

So I had something very weird happen to my truck earlier today, and of course it happened at the most inconvenient time and place...at the check in window at the guard shack.
Pulled into Nestle in Fort Dodge without any issues. Turned my truck off to hear the guard better and when I turned my truck on, it simply just wouldn't go into gear. Air was charged fine, no fault codes popped up on the dash, nothing seemed out of the ordinary except that the gear selector was flashing between N and CC. A call to breakdown later and Matt and I tried pretty much everything he could think of to get it into gear to no avail, all while blocking the only entrance into the facility. 10 minutes later and with the guards not terribly amused, it magically went into gear just fine as if nothing ever happened and I haven't had any issues with it since.
I've never had any automatic ever do this before. I'm kind of leery of it happening again.Speed_Drums, IH9300SBA and bzinger Thank this. -

Peterbilt, but same drivetrain as KW'sIH9300SBA Thanks this.

I had a Eaton fuller automatic once before that did that because the clutch was hot. Prefer a manual every day.Speed_Drums and cdavis188 Thank this.

I agree but with the fiasco I had my first day at FCC, my confidence in driving manuals dropped severely. I should've probably stayed in that truck as going out to California and back made me a lot more fluid driving a manual.
At any rate, the chances of me getting another manual are probably pretty slim since I've heard that FCC is slowly transitioning to all autos.M22 rockcrusher Thanks this. -
Sounds like it went Mitch McConnell on you! My FL occasionally pauses to “think”, but never for more than a second.ncmickey, MidWest_MacDaddy, cdavis188 and 1 other person Thank this.

Yeah all the trucks they get in will be automatic I guess one day.cdavis188 Thanks this.

Probably what happened was the gears weren't exactly meshed when it shut down.(in a manual you would have to ease off the clutch a slight but to get it in gear). One of the many reasons I dread the day that the manual goes away for good. Hopefully I will have retired to the old fart assisted living home by the time that happens.
48Packard, M22 rockcrusher and cdavis188 Thank this.
