RE: helping the son thread

The difference between stupidity and ignorance is, you can help stupidity, as it's not intentional. But you can't help ignorance, because it's a choice.

Not directing this towards anyone, just a statement of.. opinion.

 

I think you have that backwards.
If you are ignorant of something it means you don’t know, but can be taught.

If you’re stupid, well as Ron White says, “you can’t fix stupid”.

 

But you can’t deal with ignorance. To me ignorance is having someone and you gotta show and tell them to do everything, “Go pick up the bottle out of yard.” They get the one bottle, leaving the rest beside it, because you only said one bit get all the bottles

 

I think that is, or has become, on oft parroted quote or statement.

No - and Yes - 'Stupid' can't be fixed. 'Ignorant' may be fixed by the individual.

 

Look, all of you, I think you have to ask yourself this question -

Would you do the same thing if your kid needed help?​

This is a rhetorical question, which for the ignorant means it is there to make you think of the subject I am making a statement on. I do not expect a post about it just think about it.


By the by ...

Ignorance means that you lack knowledge on the subject.

Stupid means you are unable to understand or REFUSE to attempt to understand - the latter is a lot of people on the road and some here in parts of the Forum.

 

I just don't understand the hand holding these days. Why are parents still coddling their adult children? Most people in their 20's are more than capable of using a computer to find information these days.

 

I remember the thread. If I'm not mistaken, the son is 23 years old and committed his felony when he was 18/19. He has three things working against him as a new CDL holder:

1. Extremely young
2. Felony conviction
3. Slow market

Any one of those is bad enough, but all three is almost a guaranteed no.

The dad was treated pretty harshly by some, but he didn't do himself any favors in the way he responded. Bottom line, it should have been his son here asking for help. The fact that it was the dad tells me his son hasn't really grown up yet. He probably only got the CDL so it would look like he's trying. I get that the dad wants to help his son, but that "boy" is past the point of parenting. I picked up on a lot of misplaced anger from the dad that really should be directed at his son.

 

201, my kids are just the same, my oldest runs her own business, 24 years old, he brother is in the AirForce in Poland/Ukraine, and the next older one is very well educated and makes more money in one year than I do in five and the rest are following the leader.

However, sometimes you need to look beyond things that are on the surface and point someone in the right direction.

It isn't, he came here just to ask to see if anyone could help, he wasn't part of the industry and didn't knew just the basics in our world so it wasn't handholding like I have seen with parents (my sister-in-law is a perfect example of a piss poor parent, having a 36-year-old who has never had a job living at home and his brother married a Chinese girl. When I met her, she openly called her husband the stupidest thing on two legs because he doesn't have common sense - like driving a sports car into a snow bank and calling mommy for help).

I agree, but he didn't come here, I don't even think he knew about this forum, so yes he was treated badly, and why I asked what I asked, wouldn't you do the same?
