Yeah that's part of the pre-trip inspection. If that's aggravating there's plenty of jobs paying $40-$50k less a year where you don't even have to be troubled to do a pre-trip if you want.

There's no shortage of people who have a CDL but that doesn't mean there isn't a shortage of good qualified drivers. Most good drivers already have a job they're not going to leave. Or the best, imo, actually create their own job. So the pool there is limited.

That's nice. I guess it all boils down to for me personally is that I know that I'm not going to be home every single day and it is mandatory to wear a uniform. Where I'm at right now I get to wear what I want. And I hear that Walmart does a lot of micromanaging where they look at every little thing. I don't have to do any of that where I'm at right now.

And I hear that Walmart now has to pick up backhauls. I don't like going to backhauls and I don't like going out of state. I do my little seven eight hours a day and go home.

Yeah a couple or a few times a year. You gotta be pretty dense not to know when it's going on. Do your pre-trip the same every time and there's no problem. Don't do it and get talked to about it. Sound scary?

They launder the uniforms so that's not something we have to take home and do. If you get a grease stain on something it's not your personal clothes ruined. Just swap it out for a new replacement. They don't want drivers looking like the flip flop, sweat pant wearing ruffians that you see in truck stops. Might scare the customers away.

Nobody micromanages anything. You're expected to know your job. I grab paperwork and go. Never hear from anyone when I'm driving and not often at the office either (other than a "hi how are you") which I'm in there 3 times a day.

Backhauls for us are a breeze. Sometimes I pickup one or two in a week sometimes I go a couple of weeks without picking one up. More typical is to go back to the yard empty but the backhauls are mostly drop and hook. The live loads aren't bad. You don't get treated like dirt at the vendors like they do with a lot of contract carrier drivers.

The safety guy told my friend he watches the cameras to make sure people are doing their pretrips and getting out and walking around the truck at least once before backing. This is at the yard tho, he doesn't do all that in truck stops
