Do you know how a negotiation works? Strikes are last resort. And "go get another job" isn't a valid solution. Most of your whining about unions is due to workers rights being steadily stripped the last 40-50years. Hell, several states want to repeal child labor laws, but sure, unions are the problem. Not these companies showing record breaking profits while me and you can barely afford groceries. Unions were the agreement that workers wouldn't break into the bosses house and murder him infront of his family. Im sorry, im not going to shed a tear over the people effing us losing a few dollars because someone goes on strike.![]()

I make more than double that but I bought my home in 2012 when they were a 1/3rd of the price that they are today. No way would I pay $50ok for a home and I know some don’t even have the option to buy because they can’t afford it. You’d think an educator could comfortably assimilate in their chosen community but not today.hope not dumb twucker, cdavis188 and navypoppop Thank this. -

And I feel the same way when unions cost a company so much they start shedding jobs and closing plants...I won't shed one tear when those union schlubs that caused it have to hunt for a job (or two) that pays anywhere near what they had BEFORE they went on strike.hope not dumb twucker, D.Tibbitt and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
Years ago, there was a company in Elkhart, Indiana. They made band instruments. Workers were represented by the UAW. They went on strike, for better wages, etc., at a time when the economy was down.
After a few month's of negotiations going nowhere, the company started hiring replacements, along with a few members who crossed the line. Paying them what they had offered the UAW. After a few month's, they had enough workers, where they held an election, and decertified the union. Union was not representing them anymore.
Most of the UAW members were not hired back, had to find other jobs. Most at less money than they had been making.navypoppop, Knucklehead, hope not dumb twucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
Everyone is entitled to your own opinions and experiences regarding unions. However, how many people complain about the Teamsters? Can't find one in the bad company forum. Don't even see any in the good company forum. Is anyone from UPS complaining on this forum? Are there any Teamster union driver's on this forum who constantly complain about who they work for?
The Teamsters were very good to my wife and I. Never a strike at either of our companies. My wife retired in 2020 at age 56 after 30 years of being a Teamster union represented office worker. I retired last year at age 60 after being a Teamster union represented HazMat tanker driver. We both receive our pensions for life as well as lifetime medical, dental and vision. That benefit costs us $556.00 per month for both. We own a 2800sgft single story home in Eastvale CA. We also have a home in Ontario CA that we still owe $70,000 but we rent that out. We also bought land and built a house in the Laughlin Ranch community of Bullhead City AZ that overlooks the casino's in Laughlin NV across the Colorado river. The house payment is $1500.00 per month.
It's just sad to see people that did the same thing that did for so much less. All we do is move a commodity from point A to point B. And the people that have too or choose too stay out for weeks at a time to make a decent living is ridiculous unless that's what you like to do. Personally, I liked being home every afternoon with my wife. And let's not forget about all of the free time that they give to the company. I have this strange belief that everyone should be paid, in some fashion, for all time spent on duty and working for a company. Some people will say that "If you don't like working for the company, then quit and find another one". And that's a true statement. Some people say that trucking is a lifestyle. Good for them. I have a friend who I grew up with that lives about 2 miles away and he's an O/O. He is the person that got me interested in trucking. That's his belief as well. Not for me though. I believe that my truck driving career provided me the lifestyle that I have.scythe08, JB7, Knucklehead and 4 others Thank this. -

And it sounds like they're not a fan of unions either

If you read my post correctly, you will see that I was a HazMat tanker driver, not a UPS driver. The UPS comment as well as any other Teamster represented workers do not complain on this forum still stands. I could care less about TFI. Never worked for them.scythe08, Friend, IH9300SBA and 1 other person Thank this.
