I made 84k last year (only 78 was reported to the feds for some reason though). That's plenty enough money for me. I will be the first to admit that I'm not the hardest worker, nor do I want to be. Reaching 120k paid miles is my goal, and anything more is just a bonus. But i like my hometime. There's a lot more to life than just trundling around in a truck for weeks at a time.
There's several drivers here that make a lot more than I do, but you don't see me complaining whenever I have a subpar week. It's trucking and #### happens

What I will say about this company is they’re not perfect. No company is one issue that they could seriously address and really believe they need to is the communication between CS and operations and operations to the driver…
There’s too many times drivers are left in the dark about certain loads were on and what not that has been a problem for quite some time… But I could say the asset manager I have is the best one I’ve ever had here by far…
The last one I had here a couple years ago was so rude and disrespectful that I found out she eventually got fired…
I’ve got my bonus every single quarter. I’ve been back except the last quarter and that was because of a driver screwed me over on a repower other than that I’ve had my bonus every single quarter…
I’m currently going to Waddell Arizona to pick up at Red Bull going to Romeoville Illinois. It’ll be another 3000+ mile a week…
I do think if you have a sorry asset manager it can affect your miles to some extent mine doesn’t play around and will not tolerate his drivers sitting around twiddling their thumbs.Friend, Lonesome and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
We all have our preferences in how we run. For some, like Snackbar, he loves long miles and weeks on the road. I have tried that and it isn't for me. I'm in my 50's, have held a classA since I was 19 and didn't work for my first "mega" until I was more than 10 years into driving.
Up until then it was all local and vocational work, and when I was unexpectedly laid off from my car haul job (along with 600 other drivers) I took a few months to try something different before going back to cars. While I enjoy an occasional 3,000+ mile road trip, and still do several a year, it wasn't for me.
Now, some would say I'm crazy with what I currently do. I am gone almost every week, spending almost 200 days in a hotel, driving different trucks and cars daily, and flying twice a week just to get to/from, but I love it. Pays great, I manage a fleet of 7 drivers and still get to drive myself. I demonstrate brand new tow trucks and car haulers nationwide, get paid to attend truck shows and more so it is not even like work.
Even absent the current dream job, when I was towing or car hauling my days were usually never more than 250-300 miles. I was paid for production, not miles, so it never mattered to me. Even as an owner op car hauler, miles never mattered.
But, to each his own. I have worked for JB Hunt, USF Glen Moore and Crete and think that is enough of a sample of mega carriers to know that they are all the same and I do not fit into that market.
Snackbar, sorry things are not working out ad well as you hoped. I hope one day you do find the job that runs you how you want and pays well enough.Friend, Lonesome, Sirscrapntruckalot and 8 others Thank this. -
I get my bonus every quarter with Crete, but the last 2 they had to pull a rabbit out of their bum to make it happen.400..ish empty with a 1200 mile load to finish me off at 30008.Im grateful the ops mgr is covering the lack of service from a AM who seems to have no sense of urgency, and 0 communication skills.Ive actually found it faster to call her.
Friend, Lonesome, Knucklehead and 1 other person Thank this. -

SSB take it up the food chain. Go above the heads of your AM and whoever is covering for her when’s she gone.
There is no perfect solution here, but you need to do something. Take it all the way to the top if you have too. Make sure they KNOW what’s going on. Do like @drvrtech77 did and run it up the ladder.
Otherwise go to Holland if you’re needing to stay out and all that. The miles are there, the money is there.
Make. It. Work. For. You.Friend, hope not dumb twucker, Speed_Drums and 3 others Thank this. -
