35.70 here at averitt in Florida.
can’t remember when, but was 6ish months ago. Was a 1.20
my boys at cooper had to wait 15 months they tell me. Swift slow with the pay bumps. -
Any hostlers keep track of their daily miles in a yard truck?
I’ve found myself hostling more often recently, and today I decided to compare my starting and ending odometer…it shows I drove 39 miles in the yard during a 12 hour shift. Way more than I was expecting to see.gentleroger, McUzi and road_runner Thank this. -
That's pretty wild. I never thought you would cover that many miles inside your own yard. I guess that kinda makes sense if you average your mph times how many minutes of each hour you are actually moving. It must mean you either have a busy yard or a large layout (or a combination of both). I would have to look up my own mileage from way back then to see where I was at, but we did a lot of sitting around so it wouldn't surprise me if I wasn't anywhere near those numbers.gentleroger and jmz Thank this.

Had a guy on closeout that use to do the hooks for linehaul who kept track of his walking, would do 5-6 miles a night doing hooks. I could see a big warehouse or yard putting some miles in on a Yard Truck.jmz and gentleroger Thank this.

I used to do the same with my smart watch. But between the walking, yard goat, and the occasional spin on the forklift I was never really sure what was being tracked and how accurate it all was.gentleroger Thanks this.

At the dedicated account I 'helped out on', there were 14 doors, 130 odd trailer spots - probably about 2/3 of a mile in diameter and a small warehouse a half mile away. We'd do about 40 moves in an 8 hour shift and log about 15-20 miles, depending on how many times you had to go to the warehouse. Third shift would end up doing about 30 miles, but they had to drive the 5 miles to the truckstop for fuel/def every night. They're all short moves, but there are a lot of them and they add up in a hurry.

Our O/N yard guy hooks our sets, does dock work among other things and walks 4-5 miles a day doing that.
-
Checked again today and it's not a fluke, I drove that truck 45 miles in one shift just inside the yard.
I probably get a decent amount of steps too, but I don't wear anything to track it. -
When I was combo I would do about 12-15 miles of walking each day if I maxed out a 14 or 16 hour clock.
2-3 48 trailers to deliver at breakneck speed at the nearby industrial park. Then finish my remaining hours doing dock work, busy work or walking around with a headset kicking chocks around for the yard guy(s) at night so they didn't have to leave the truck.
Hard work is rewarded with more work. Hated that ####. Those days I'd sleep in my car since I lived an hour from the yard. Could eat 4k calories a day in one giant meal and not gain weight.Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this.
