Sorry OP, what a crock. I never went OTR, and run local. Sorry, but the "you need to pay your dues" claim just doesn't ring true. If you look, the non OTR jobs are out there.

Wow, surprising how "slow" some of you are!
ONCE AGAIN.... NEVER EVER HAVE I SAID IT IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!! YES IT IS POSSIBLE!!!! YOUR CHANCES OF IT HAPPENING THOUGH AREN'T VERY LIKELY. YES IT CAN HAPPEN, YES IT DOES HAPPEN BUT TO ENCOURAGE SOMEONE TO SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY IN HOPES OF JUST GOING LOCAL IS VERY UNFAIR TO THAT PERSON!!!! IF IT DOESN'T HAPPEN THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO COMMIT TO DRIVING OVER THE ROAD WHICH THEY ABSOLUTELY DON'T WANT TO DO AND IF THEY HAVE FAMILIES IT WILL BE EVEN WORSE!!!
SO ONCE AGAIN, YES YOU CAN GET A LOCAL JOB RIGHT OUT OF TRUCKING SCHOOL. YOU CHANCES IN DOING SO AREN'T VERY HIGH SO DON'T GO TO SCHOOL WITH THE SOLE THOUGHTS OF BECOMING A LOCAL DRIVER. THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!!! IF YOU AREN'T COOL WITH OVER THE ROAD DRIVING I WOULD THINK TWICE ABOUT SPENDING THAT MUCH MONEY ON SCHOOL AND TAKING THE RISK OF GETTING A LOCAL JOB.
So does this make sense to all? I'm sure I'll still get retarded rebuttals with words being put in my mouth but hopefully this will dull it down a bit.mph1972 Thanks this. -
I understand exactly what you are saying and agree with you.chompi Thanks this. -

People who choose trucking for their carreer should go OTR for a good solid year to gain exp.People that ask for hometime before even getting your CDL better rethink their choice untill you know in full detail what trucking is all about.Going local before any trucking exp whatsoever, well all I have to say is good luck finding a local job.
