I don't know. That is just my theory. Someone more "seasoned", please correct me if I am just way wrong. But I honestly think that trucker cb lingo is something that should be preserved. -

Like any other industry, terms tend to humorous as a way to break the monotony and too also allow one to know who belongs in the 'club.' Alligator is also easier than "piece of tire tread." There's plenty of reading on the development of slang if you want to have a nerdgasm.
