Do you guys n gals still use trucker slang like "bubble gum machines", "smokies" and the like? If so, can you share examples?

Hammer down, granny lane, wiggle wagons, zipper line, four wheeler. Those are the ones I use the most.

Cool! So, this lingo is just for fun? Or does it make is easier or quicker to convey messages?

CB lingo created its own subculture back in the days. A lot of it has faded away with the newer generation of drivers. I use regular English when talking on the CB... But at the same time, I am not old enough to appreciate that part of trucking history. I can only speculate on how it came to be, but I am guessing it was a way for truckers to have an exclusive way to communicate to each other. Drivers just stick together.

I don't know. That is just my theory. Someone more "seasoned", please correct me if I am just way wrong. But I honestly think that trucker cb lingo is something that should be preserved.

Interesting. Would be neat to find out where it came from.

Like any other industry, terms tend to humorous as a way to break the monotony and too also allow one to know who belongs in the 'club.' Alligator is also easier than "piece of tire tread." There's plenty of reading on the development of slang if you want to have a nerdgasm.
