Having once pulled a refrigerated trailer, when I parked in a truck stop with a continuous run or deep freeze load, I would do my best to park next to another refer unit. Why? Because I thought it courteous to not park next to a dry van or flat bed and disturb them with my loud refer running. Now that I pull a flatbed, it seems like many of the company refer drivers lack this courtesy. For example, I parked at a Pilot for the weekend and the afternoon saw many an empty space around me, yet a Stevens driver decided to park his continuous run unit next to me. Plenty of space, but parks next to a non-idling flatbed.

Truck stops are noisy enough to find comfortable parking. Please be courteous and park away from non-refer units if at all possible. I and many other flatbedders will be grateful.

So when I have my reefer off and the screens in the window, why o why do you non-reefer drivers insist on parking that piece 'o junk hood with a rattlin' noisy Cat next to me? Nothing like trying to get some quiet, and a flatbed or van jerk shows up, runs that crap engine up to full-blast idle, turns on the A/C and I get to listen to that! And the compressor poppin' off every ten minutes. And the belts squealin'...

    :biggrin_25510:

Oh yeah... I know why. It's called a truckstop. If you want quiet, go park in a field.

It's a truckstop; trucks park there. Change jobs; sell vacuum cleaners door to door. If noise from trucks and reefers bother you, you're in the wrong profession.

That's why Drivers nose in rather than backing! But again, when i was driving over the road, i could sleep and not be disturb even by a train! would deep sleep because i would drive mostly 750 miles a day rigging the log! by the time i went to sleep, nothing would wake me up! sorry for the log rigging! that was part of the company policy!

That's a real good attitude to have.Truck drivers are not a 1 size fitsall. I for 1 am a light sleeper. But then again after 30 years driving I know there are a lot of inconsiderate drivers out here, but I don't go and tell them to get another job!!!!!

I'm a very light sleeper also, probably moreso than you. But I'm sensible and open minded enough to know truckstops can be noisy & I must either accept it or change jobs.

I agree 110%. It has everything to do with courtesy AND common sense. I should not have to listen to your excessive noise during my downtime. If the lot's packed-fine, I understand. But when you see my non idleing van parked all by itself in the back 40 - get a clue...I think if this behavior continues the feds are gonna end up regulating parking (segregation anyone?). I'm surprised they haven't done a study the noise variable at truck stops and it's effect on quality sleep.
