ok i need your advice. i am 36 i'll be 37 in oct. i been working for walmart for 6 year and in march it be 7 years ill get 3 weeks paid vacation. my plan is to take this money quit walmart and pay my bills for the month and off to get my CDL. I been doing some research and thinking about prime looks like good start company. although living in a light truck for 3 to 4 weeks and dont get much home time. but other than that not bad. Then on other hand looking at schneider also looks like good company and if i could get on dedicated wintersville ohio walmart run that be great id be right in my area so should get home little more.but not sure how easy it be for a new guy to get dedicated run? also not looked into driving for them yet but do like the looks of knights trucks lol ok guys any info u can give me or advice id really appreciate it and thank you in advance

Schneider is a good company, but doesn't have their own CDL school. However, they do have tuition reimbursement if you attend a private or community college CDL school. Talk to a recruiter about the dedicated account; probably a good chance to be assigned to it because many younger drivers don't want those accounts & prefer to run coast-to-coast and see the USA.

Schneider, you don't have to stay out longer than 4 or 5 days unless you want to. They have many local and regional jobs. Prime teams while training and it's some ungodly amount of time like 6 weeks or longer. You're not training for that length of time, you're wasting your time driving for extremely low pay. Schneiders not the bee-knees of trucking by any means, in fact they are about as low as you can go in the industry but you can get started with them and move on within a year or two.

thank u dna very helpful

6 weeks is a long time to train for a new driver? I think not!!! And its funny you should say low pay seeing as how prime has one of the highest paid training programs available

Millis Transfer has an excellent program & their drivers average $50K per year and that goes for the first year also. Their training period is very reasonable also. There is no reason for a long training period in trucking unless you're going with tanker/hazmat or heavy haul. Other than those it's really not very complicated. Watkins-Shepard only has 10 days training and longer if you request it; that company has been around a long time and know what they're doing.

Schneider would be the best for someone starting fresh. It was for me. I did 2 months OTR with Central then went over to Schneider felt a lot better.
