Used motor oil, provided it is not contaminated with any foreign substance is not hazardous, no placards or haz-mat endorsement required. I used to drive for a waste oil collection company, 3000 gallon tanker, only thing I needed was a tank endorsement unless our flash point test showed a low flash point, then it became a combustible and needed placards and haz-mat.

Simple rule of thumb, usually but not always, if there are no placards you do not need the haz-mat endorsement, if placards are present then you need haz-mat endorsement.

Ugh. The container holds 330 gallons and would be full. It's our oil and typically when we haul our own equipment/materials we don't have any BOLs. It's the first time they have asked me to haul this.

You are OK. Oil is not flammable and does not meet any other qualifations to be a hazardous material. the only special thing about oil is that if you spill it you have to report the spill to the epa and clean it properly.

I hauled a whole truckload of 'fracing fluid' from Houston Tx to Williston ND in 55 gallon drums and it wasn't hazmat. I sure wouldn't want it in my ground water...!

Motor oil is not considered to be hazmat by DOT but motor oil classified as a "Material of Trade" or MOT Materials of Trade also have packaging and marking requirements that help increase safety. The packaging must be the manufacturer’s original packaging or a package of equal or greater strength and integrity. The packaging must be marked with a common name (such as “gas” or
“spray paint”) or a proper shipping name from the HMR (such as “Isopropyl Alcohol”.)
Additionally, the following other requirements apply to MOTs:
Packagings must be leak tight for liquids and gases, and sift proof for solids. Packages must be securely closed, secured against movement, and protected against damage.

One more thing to expand on my earlier post, used motor oil may be classified as a waste by your state, I know when I hauled it in NY, PA, and NJ we had waste transport permits. Your company should know if you need this permit or not and you should have a bill of lading and a certificate of origin for the used oil product, it needs to show a flash point to insure that the used oil is not contaminated with a combustible substance. I do not recall exactly what the flash point had to be above so it was not combustible, I'm sure someone on here will know that but right now it is my bed time so I don't have time to look it up.
