So you think getting your own authority and using a load board will solve your detention and breakdown conundrums??
Wanna know who to blame......pull down your visor and take a hard look in the mirror.
Lies lies lies.

Because I posted a similar thread today - however, it's not about going bankrupt with them, it's about things to avoid.
And no - I'm surviving nicely on 3 or 4 days work every 2 weeks. Can't relate.
Good luck.RStewart Thanks this. -
In here, we rarely hear any drivers/OP's tell us the full story about their work. I have long since stopped wondering why that is.
So if a driver signs on to drive for a listed company, or if an owner leases on to a listed carrier, that individual should know what to expect beforehand - it's always the same because it is always the same. Simple. I lease on to Conway, now XPO, and they've been pretty good.
I don't think it's really sad, Stayin. To me, it's not a peace and love situation, it's just business. All the company has to do to make me happy is be true to their word about the details, pay me as agreed, and keep me in work. Period. If I want "respect," or "support," or "somebody to care about me," I'll go somewhere else.
If a company "used and abused" my services "for free?" See ya, and maybe see ya in court, depending on the size of the "use and abuse" situation.
This theme, how to make money in trucking, is one of the most important questions in the industry. Buying a truck and getting an authority is certainly no guarantee of success - there is no guarantee of success, in trucking, in any business. Except as an elected representative, then you get a license to steal.
You want to succeed in trucking? Keep your mouth shut, pull your loads, don't spend more than you make.RStewart, bayoustate, Old - School and 3 others Thank this. -
Great Post Starboyjim............
I suppose their are limited exceptions to the rule as you explain, Leasing on with Conway/xpo (Which in my eyes,Is the next best thing to the union)..........
Other than that, Our views are pretty close, Unfortunately, .
I've seen WAY too many drivers/owner-ops get destroyed over the years not by their own making....They Worked hard and STILL came out with what they had to start with..... -
I often think of having a small trucking company of my own, stay home, do my own dispatch, billing, so on. I have, and am still, looking at becoming a broker and working for myself. Keep more of the pie, you know. Pretty steep hill to climb with out a special client or two to start with. -
